    Default Fishing Partner & Son

Unfortunately I have the most devastating knews any parent should never have to announce. I found my son dead on December 10th at home in his bed. He was 27 years old and had his whole life ahead of him.

We were scheduled to go to Weiss Lake in Alabama next month over the MLK holiday. We were both pumped because neither of us work on that Monday so we knew we had an extra day on the water.

At 4 years of age Hunter and I had our first argument. He hooked what I estimate to be a 5lb hybrid at Taylorsville Lake. This was on a Snoopy pole. I told him to give me the pole and he told me "It's my pole and my fish." He would not give it to me. He did manage to get the fish to the side of the boat, where she broke off before I could net it. Now that I think about it, that was probably the time my boy cussed too.

Preliminary toxicology test came back negative ruling out an overdose or suicide by overdose. A family friend/doctor is leaning towards an undiagnosed diabetic. He has lost over 120lb in around two years. We were proud but now the doctor is leaning towards diabetes helping him lose the weight along with his strict diet. We know he called in sick his last day on earth, complaining about vomiting. In the end my boy is gone so whatever caused this isn't going to bring him back.

Lisa and I will never get over this but we know the pain will dull over time. My step-son and son-in-law somehow convinced their bosses to let the off that Monday of the MLK holiday, so we still get the extra day at the lake. We will be scattering some of his ashes in the lake and I'msure there will be a lot of tears. Hunter once caught five, 2lb crappie in one day and in one bay on Weiss Lake. I've never caught two 2lbers in one day let alone five. Hunter was seven when he did it. Obviously, this lake means a lot to us and that's why I fish there so much.

I still have my family to live for and more friends than I ever knew I had. I will miss my son every day for the rest of my life, but I have too many more days to spend on the water and too many slabs to toss in the live well before I pass. We will have a lot of fishing stories to catch up on when I do pass many years from now. Until then I hope Hunter is my angel that might coach a three pounder onto my line.Name: Resized_20210228_144537_718597282951240.jpg
