    Default Tville in the heat

Sunday was a good day on the water with my dad. I bought my minnows the night before to buy myself another half hour or so of sleep, and kept the pump running and stuck my bait box inside a cooler full of ice. Water was nice, blue and cold to keep my little guys wiggly. My trolling pace has definitely quickened, I’m not really soaking the bait over a treetop full of crappie, mainly because they are so spread out. The bite is still mushy for the most part, but the thermocline is forming and when you present your bait right in their faces they seem to be willing to grab it. I’ve lost probably half a dozen really nice fish at the boat, I haven’t got a good hook set in their lips because they bit just like a “snag” and I was gently trying to pull it out of their mouths, unbeknownst to myself. You’ll have that on these big jobs and my landing net replacement is somewhere in USPS purgatory, I’m sure that problem will solve itself as well. So I’ll be in St Pete Beach for the next week, I’ll leave it up to y’all to get it done out there. Gonna be another two weeks before I get to fish because I’ll be on call the week I get back. I plan on crappie fishing year around so these fish should be back on that summer pattern and the dreaded doldrums of a post spawn transition should be over. Y’all be safe.

Another great catch BCO! BTW, great to meet you on Saturday. I ended up with 9 good keepers. Couldn't keep the dinks off the line. At times at had 4 on at once. Went through a 1/4 lb of minners like it was nothing. I was picking up dead ones off the bottom of the boat toward the end. The bite was about as aggressive as I've ever seen it.
