Default We’ve had our turn, now it’s theirs...

Folks welcome to this magical time of year we call Summer. For us crappie fisherman, it means we now “hand over the keys to the Porsche”, so to speak. To plainly put it get out there and fish at dusk, dawn, or bust out those lights. I kept 8 fish today, fishing from 7:00 am until about 10:30, maybe catching 30-40 small crappie and a couple of nice blue cats to boot. But around 11:00 the heat was oppressive, my umbrella could only do so much. There were literally hundreds of pleasure boaters already in the water by the time I left and another hundred in line. I’ll keep my comments on the PG side but man are some of these folks rude...and this ol boy don’t put up with rudeness. I’ve helped out more stranded boaterist’s than I can count and have all but given the shirt off my back to so many people over the years in the water and I would never act the way some of these people do, some ramp etiquette and trailering practice can go a long way, y’all feel me? Anywhoo it’s a post spawn world so you need to cover some ground, and put your bait in front of as many fish as you can. Some are hammering it. Some are light lipping it and some are flat lock jawed. If you don’t want to crappie fish I found about 100 bluegill beds today side scanning just looking for new water to fish, and I saw a lot of folks jugging for cats..as for me I’m gonna stick with the slabs....glutton for punishment I reckon. Y’all be safe out there, not many widow makers floating but plenty of idiots by lunchtime.

Forget to add, I ran into a fellow member on the water this morning, and his handle escapes me. Super nice guy and out there doing the lords work. If you read this man I’m terrible with names but I appreciate the talk and I hope you got you a mess.

Yep, my buddy cjpar3 and his wife were there this morning from about 8-1230ish and didn't have any luck ... well, except for bad luck. Seems a wake boat gave him some trouble, causing him to face plant on his windshield ... busting his lip & loosening some teeth. I'm going to drop by his place tomorrow & check on him.
I've had wake boats around me before, when I'm fishing, and they just don't seem to realize that what makes their sport "fun" for them makes it miserable for everyone else ... especially on a lake that's as narrow as Taylorsville.

Like BCO says ... ya'll be safe out there !! Wear your PFD's, hook up your kill switch, and be aware of what's going on around you when there's lots of boat traffic.

For the life of me, I don't understand how wake boats are even legal... especially in light of all of the damaging bank erosion they cause to the ecology and the dangerous wakes they cause for everyone else who's out there trying to enjoy the water. We were trying to bass fish on one of our local lakes the other week and there were two big wake boats making big circles in the same area of the lake; along with all of the other big boat traffic that seemed to be riding back and forth at half throttle, and along with about a 12 mph wind; very soon the water reminded me of a scene from "Deadliest Catch." It was completely UN-fishable because of all of the chaos and reminded me of the long and aggravating summer season that is to come. Then it took about an hour at the boat ramp (because of all of the calamity) to get the boat loaded and head to the house.

Man I hate to hear that, I hope your buddy is ok. As a working man I could only afford what I got, an 18 foot tracker and I tell you what, they gave me all I could handle on the way in. Good thing is those guys don’t get up very early, we can get in and out in a hurry before they even knew we were there.

First: CrappiePappy you tell CJ I hope he's OK, sending prayers. Second: I really think those Wake Boaters know exactly what they're doing and get their kicks from harassing fisherpeople. JMO

Try living in my world 7 days a week. Yes, I hate wake boats! There, I got it out of my system. I also hate green carp fishermen who think they own the lake and are just being nice letting us use it! Granted, the % of troublemakers is small but very memorable.

finiman and I were in separate boats Thursday on Barkley. We got close enough to talk back and forth without yelling. There was 200 yards of open water to the south and 400 yards to the north. A jerk in a big Ranger blasted right between us!!!!??Really?

BTW, summer is some of my best fishing so I deal with it. There are places on KY and Barkley I turn over to the tri-toons, jet skis, and assorted other wave makers very early in the day. At least twice a year I have boats come in so close to check out what I’m doing, I can throw a crankbait into their boat. These boats literally are no more than a short cast off the ends of my poles while I’m trolling!

That's great for people that can do that, but for people like M R DUX it's not easy to stay away from the lake lice when you've got a paid trip going on.
