    Default Taylorsville

Went out for a little while yesterday. Couldn't get anything to bite in deep water. Tried the bank and caught so many black crappie. Zero keepers, all 9 to 9.5 inches. Most had bloody tails and were very aggressive. Does this mean they are still in the progress of spawning? Used Popeyes and minnows. Both were catching fish Caught several nice bluegills.

A lot of fish still have eggs in them right now, so yes, some are still spawning.

Yeah, and these all being black crappie I figured the whites would still be a little bit behind them also.

I think the weather & water level fluctuations has both species out of sync.

No disrespect intended, but by "black crappie" are you talking about Black Crappie or are you talking about White Crappie males that are in their spawning colors ?? I ask because we caught a lot of White Crappie males on the banks last week & the week before :

If you look closely, there's one Black Crappie in this picture (top left corner), while all the others are White Crappie .... darker ones are males, lighter/normal colored ones are females.

Here's a Black Crappie male caught by my partner from week before last :

Thanks for pointing this out. I bet these were whites. They were just a lot darker than I would of expected a white crappie to be.

Dorsal spines are another way to tell. Whites have 5-6 while blacks have 7-8.

They've finally started reporting water temps at depth :

Just be advised that the temps are reported in Celsius and not Fahrenheit. SO .... to convert Celsius to Fahrenheit, multiply the temperature in degrees Celsius by 2, and then add 30 to get the (estimated) temperature in degrees Fahrenheit.
(and also remember that these temps are taken at the Dam, by the COE, so temps in other areas of the lake may be higher or lower)
