It can be frustrating especially running several 16 footers trying to fight the wind. Once you dial in and kind of have your own system in place, it is great fishing when you have everything going your way. Last weekend I hung (FIVE) of my eight rods up on a stump bed "THAT I KNEW WAS THERE" at KY Lake, talking about trying your patients. I started out rigging with four rods and gradually increased the rods as I got more comfortable (several trips).

    Good luck to you!

Getting used to 14 ft rods. It can be difficult but really cool when you figure a few things out. Easier to use the 12's I started with but I feel I catch more now. Catfish on inner rods and hangups will try your patience! Nothing better on suspended fish in deeper water OVER structure! I tend to use a one hook Capps and Coleman type rig most of the time because I just got tired of the mess I made with 2 hook rigs! Stay with it, it can really work for most of the year when there are always fish lurking under the shad balls!

Were you long line trolling by chance? I have found long line trolling to be problematic in the wind if you are pulling jigs, the wind will cause them to tangle easily. Crankbaits aren't as bad in the wind about tangling. If windy I usually swap to pushing jigs or minnows if I want to troll. The added weight helps your lines from tangling. You can still use your long rods. Just my 2c.

I’m not sure what long lining is I had 1/2 oz weight over a jig head and Bobby garland pink tipped with minnow

Longline Trolling is usually trolling jigs without weights (hence the "long line" behind the boat). Spider Rigging is usually done at speeds below 0.5mph (and involves changing speeds & starting/stopping)... while Pushing is done with heavier weights & higher speeds (constant speed & no stopping). I usually Push jigs with 1oz @ 1mph and cranks with 2oz @ 1.5-1.8mph ... I don't "Spider Rig" and rarely "Longline", and when I do Longline Troll it's usually with just one rod (no extra weight). Most often it's just me dragging a Road Runner, rod in hand, when moving down a bank under trolling motor power to a distant spot. Every once in awhile, when I do have the rod holders on, I may put that rod(w/RR on) in the holder while Pushing jigs with the other rods just to present a bait to shallower fish.

When in doubt you spread em out. How much are you asking for those 16 footers? I may take em off your hands.
