I am sure most locals will out fish me on there home lake, like I would most on mine. But me like many on here can show pictures like he posted that I've caught on the lakes. Problem is, I can't anymore. I'm just guessing my skills have not diminished that much in 10 years if any. I used to just fish. Now I study everything when it comes to catching crappie and thought I knew more. Obviously not at KY Lake.

As for the redear we saw this week, our best day was in big bear. I have never seen them so concentrated. I always tell people that 95% of each bay won’t have a single redear. That other 5% will be packed. Anyway, hope this helps. Maybe we’ll see you out there.
I would love to see what you guys can shock up in the Little River area. If you can come back into Drydsen Creek (also known as Party Bay), and shock that would be great. I'm a work at home employee and can flex out some time to observe either day. If you can send me a PM and I would love to follow along to see if my theory holds true or it gets blown out of the water, no pun intended. Thanks

Kentucky isn’t really my home lake, anyone that has taken a multi day fishing trip on KY lake yearly has spent more time on KY than I have in the last 5-7 years before this past fall. I like the dirty water on Barkley. I did have waypoints and beds I had put out from several years ago in some areas but have also made trips to areas starting completely blank and done well. Bottom line is I believe Kentucky has fished well over the past 9 months and is trending in the right direction.

Can’t speak to Little River other than I know a pretty nice tournament bag of crappie came out of there a few weeks ago. I did put in at a different bay in that general vicinity for couple hours one afternoon before the ice storm came in February and caught a bunch of healthy crappie that were what I would call line burners, all 9.5-10.5”. Like Adam mentioned in about the redear, these crappie were heavily concentrated in a small area of the bay. Have made several trips to this bay even though it’s a long drive for me and this spot always holds fish but never seen a “local” or any other boat in the spot. Like I mentioned before though, Barkley is off a little from a few years back. I have seen it some in my preferred areas and got a message last week from another experienced friend that had three boats of experienced fisherman that only had 9 keepers all day. But some areas are holding decent numbers of fish. And it’s not just tournament fishing guys with Livescope like me catching fish in these areas. I know of one pretty new crappie fisherman that has done well long lining catching quite a few crappie along with white bass, gills, redear, etc.

I am not going to argue with you guys or comment anymore in this thread, just get tired of seeing people run down the lakes. Like I mentioned in my first post, I wasn’t and am not poking at anyone’s ability to catch fish. Just pointing out that I have spent a lot of time in several areas of both lakes and there is still some pretty fine fishing on both lakes. A lot of us have or have had concerns about the lakes in recent years but overall I think they are headed back the right way. The next month or two will be telling though, we need good bait spawns like last year.

The bluegills are bigger this year than I've seen in my 8 years here. I always thought the bluegills should've been nicer fish and this spring has shown promise for the bluegills.

I agree totally. During the weekend I believe I ended up with 38 gills total. They were the largest on average easily I've ever caught. That was the great to see.

I can throw in a nickels worth of info. Spent 9 days 2 weeks ago fishing both lakes. Did not find many crappie in some of my old stomping grounds was forced to do more looking and searching than I wanted to. Caught crappie every day didn’t matter which lake. Best day on ky was 13 keepers that averaged.91 pounds. Barkley was 15 keepers that averaged.86 pounds. Lot of work to stay on them in wind but was worth it for me. The weather this year is all over the place but I think the lakes are doing good you just have to do a lot of moving.
