    Default Ky Lake Fishing

I am heading to Ky Lake tomorrow morning for a week of fishing in the Blood River area. I know wind is going to be a challenge along with muddy water. Any one fished that area lately with any recommendations as far as water depth or color. Thanks

Crappie Crazy, just saw your post. Sorry that NO ONE from KY Lake/Barkley replied on the info you wanted. I guess it's a dead sea right now for crappie, that's all I can figure. Hope you had some luck. Please post on what you did.

Far from dead see. But don’t know how many guys fish Blood River area that are on here these days. One of my friends had a tough day there last weekend. Fishing is pretty good from a lot of different areas from what I have heard though.
Am sorry nobody replied, not many reports these days from the Twins here right now. I don’t keep fish very often anymore and haven’t taken the time to do any reports in several years. Here’s a few from today that I gave to a friend.

I caught a nice bunch of crappie yesterday (Friday) on KY Lake. Actually had 17 keepers and a bunch of short fish. Sorry I didn't make a picture. Wasted the morning fishing deep water in several areas where I have been catching fish, but only caught a half dozen shorties. Finally found the fish in 6 to 8 feet of water, and caught them 5 to 7 feet deep on yellow/white jigs tipped with minnows. Tried just plain minnows but only caught short fish. Also tried a variety of colors on the jigs (chartreuse/red, monkey milk, black and chartreuse) but yellow and white out fished them all. It was a perfect combination for the muddy water.

I had a good 5 days of fishing. I did not catch the numbers I would have liked but what I did catch were good quality fish. When I go to Ky Lake it is to catch big crappie. I totaled 40 keepers and only 7 were between 10-11 in size. Most were 13-14 in. I had 1- 1 lb15oz and 1- 1lb14oz. Several around 1 1/2 LB. Lake was heavy stained, windy all week, lake was up and down all week and 2 fronts came through. I guess all in all things wasn’t all that bad. Fish were starting to move in on Friday, last day I fished, and by next 2 weeks it will be getting much better. I love to spider rig but did not have any luck with that, had to long line and found a dark green color worked best. Also caught 1 Asian carp on a minnow. They are a problem but lake still producing great fish. Thanks Name: IMG_3173.jpg

crappie crazy, thanks for the report. 8 keepers per day average (if you were fishing alone) was pretty good for this Lake now and I'm sure you had to work hard for them. Looks like you caught some good ones! Congratulations!

Great report and catch. And you’re right. It’ll get better in the next few weeks.

Yeah, 1 day when I was spider rigging I didn’t catch any crappie only white bass. When I was heading in I crossed an area and seen crappie bunched up sitting on bottom. I couldn’t fish that area because of wind. Next day I drove around looking on my depth finder before I started fishing. That worked out better. If fish aren’t in an area you can’t catch them.
