    Default Winter Pool

    Hi All,

I fish several of the COE lakes - Nolin, Rough, Tville, Barren. I really like being on the water at winter pool but the last couple of years the lakes have gone up and down quite a bit during what should be winter pool. Was looking for some advice about how the fish act when the lakes are rising and when they are falling. Is the bite usually better when the lake is going up or when it's going down? Do the fish move into new areas as the lake goes up and pull back into deeper water as the level comes down? Or does it really not matter and they kinda stick where they are when the lake is down?

    Thanks,

    Bob

Winter conditions can be tough on changing water levels. Most of the time rising water means muddy water but it can also mean rising water temps if the rise is from a warm rain.

I’ve found on Ky and Barkley that slowly falling winter levels can be good for fishing points or cover on drops. A fast fall with heavy current is stay at home and do Honey_Do items.

TVA has a great site for all of their dams and lake levels. I use it every day I plan on going to the lake. It’s called TVA Lake Info.

I am no professional like M R Dux but agree 100%. If water is being pulled hard, stay home and clean up your gear and get your boat organized. When it settles down, get back out there.

With all the rain we've had this year I don't think there is a "WINTER" pool, it looks more like a "YO-YO" pool up this week down next week then up again. About all you can do is check the COE to see what they're doing then take your shot at it.
