Default Hello guys. Just want to get some opinions.

First of all I try to keep my fishing equipment on a low budget. I do pretty good with simple electronics and only upgrade occasionally. I use a Lowrance Reveal 7 Splitshot on my trolling motor and it does ok but I didn’t find out until I bought it that it was a stand alone unit so I was a bit upset about that. I want to get a new unit for my dash and I am looking at 2 different units. I want a unit with side scan. One is a Lowrance Reveal 7 triple shot and the other is Garmin 7sv.
Just looking for recommendations good or bad about these 2 units.
Thanks in advance and have fun fishing.

I don’t normally fish with lowrance but I would do a hummingbird helixG2 mega or newer (the biggest you could afford) garmin livescope compatible (biggest you can afford) up front. I Say if a man was to wait till around Black Friday he could get some good deals with humminbird coming out with there new graphs a few weeks back.

I have Lowrance HDS7 with sidescan tethered together with one at dash and one in front. It does what I need and I will have it for years unless I buy a new boat.

That being said, if I had to do it again I would go Garmin Livescope. Why the Garmin over the Hummingbird or Lowrance? I've not been in a boat with anyone with a Hummingbird unit. Lowrance is great but sidescan shows me what I just passed up. Livescope can show me what is in front, side, or behind me. For now if I pass a large school I mark and hope it is there when I turn around.

If these are the only two within your budget, I’d suggest the Garmin. Better resale value when you decide to upgrade. And you will upgrade at some point as you keep on fishing.
