    Default jigs (what jigs)

Guys any help would be appreciated- I have no confidence in jigs at all. I try this jig, bobby garland, go go minnows, etc.. colors, etc.. in livescope they don't even look at them. Minnows I have confidence in. I see videos where guys say they catch 4 crappie to 1 on jigs vrs minnows. what jigs are you guys using? colors, etc....

You said the word, confidence. Keep trying them a little every trip. Basic colors are chartruese and black, pink, purple. And so on.

I have the same problem. Open water or ice I’m only successful with live bait. I even tie my own hair jigs and nothing.

I use red or black with chartreuse in various jigs tipped with a crappie nibble. Lately I've been using Strike King Joker with 1/16 and 3/32 plain head.

I pretty much use jigs all the time ... casting, Pushing, trolling ... and I use Slabanator jigs "almost" exclusively.

I, too, have watched fish come running up to my jigs on Livescope, only to turn around and go right back to where they came from. I've tried Crappie Nibbles, but the Bluegill knock them off and ignore the rest of the jig. I've given up on them and gone to using Slab Sauce and seen more interest/success when using it.

My color preferences are generally most any color body, as long as it has a chartreuse tail.

I pretty much only use jigs and i catch just as many on jigs as the person with me using minnows. I do tip the jigs with scented slab sticks. What size head you use? And do you use 1 head or 2? As you may guess i only use slabanator jigs. I use hot rods or mini rods 99% of the time if i am single poleing. My main colors are wildcat, blackberry pie, purple popper, ice sickle, solar ice, monkeytreuse, widow maker.

I fished with my long time friend who ONLY fished with minnows. My job was to find the crappie with my jigs and then we would anchor up and fish with minnows. ALL I can say is that if you are searching for crappie(casting a jig), my BEST jig was a Kalins Tennessee Shad. I used a 1/16 oz jig or 1/8 if the wind was bad, get 2-3 crappie in one area and then fish with minnows. Worked well for us. WE DID NOT have all the special electronics, just a basic depth finder to find drop offs and brush piles. We found out, yes, you can catch some on jigs in one spot, but if they quit, hit them with minnows in the same spot and they responded to the minnow.

One episode of Kentucky Afield had Chad Miles crappie fishing with a man on GRL. Chad asked what color jig he thought was best. "White", he said, "cause that is all I got."

The following statement is true. The previous statement is false.

LOL !!! White was all I used when I first started out Crappie fishing with a jig, which was a 1/8oz Doll Fly jig ... and they only came in white, black, & yellow. My Grandfather once said that the white was for Crappie (& White Bass), the yellow for Bass, and the black for fishing at night (presumably for Bass). I only remember ever using white, but do remember there was a yellow one in his tacklebox. So, yeah ... if that's "all I got" ... it's definitely "the best"
