    Default Barkley/Kentucky boat choice help

Hello! I am looking at a new to me used boat. I primarily fish Kentucky and Barkley lake and the Ohio river. I will also use the boat to duck hunt in the winter. The boat I am considering purchasing is a 2002 Alweld 1860 welded boat. The boat is equipped with a 2002 Yamaha 60 hp 4 stroke tiller handle motor. This boat also has 25” side depth which I’ve heard is slightly higher than some other models. How would this boat treat me fishing on the big lakes (Kentucky and Barkley) ? Obviously I wouldn’t be Using it during bad weather. I like the model because it can suit both fishing And hunting. Any tips and info is appreciated. If anyone has any opinions on the boat and/or the motor I would love to hear them. This boat is priced at $6000 firm which sounded like a good price from comparable boats I’ve seen. Thank you all in advance and God bless.

I have a Lowe Roughneck 1756 with a 40 hp Yamaha tiller handle that I have used for fishing, playing, and duck hunting on KY/Barkley for over 10 years now. I have it out in bad weather often on Barkley when the wind is strong from the north. Proper engine setup with the correct prop for the load is an important thing to have with a boat like that.

The only thing I don't like about my boat is the lack of a built-in livewell - it gets old having to do the cooler livewell setup, or simply a cooler with ice.

$6,000 for the rig you described sounds like a steal. The engine alone would be about $4,000

I own an Alweld and they’re solid boats. I have a 2018 2060 and I’m down on Barkley and Kentucky right now. It’s handles well but the lakes been flat calm since I got in. As long as the welds look good and you take it for a spin I don’t think you can go wrong. I duck hunt out of mine as well and it will get in skinny water. 8” draft just floating with motor up, 1-1/2’ of water using the trolling motor so it works well for a duck killing machine. The boat rides very dry in the almost two years I’ve owned it. I have yet to have water come up and over even with barge traffic. When the big wakes come I slow down or stop completely but I’ve done that it all of my ton boats so I don’t get beat up.
