Default Anyone have Garmin Striker SV7?

I have been fooling off and on with this thing for over a year. It shows depth fine, but no fish. Rare to see a brush pile either. It has a transducer mounted on the trolling motor. My old Hummingbird shows fish all the time. Brush piles too, but it is mounted in the back of the boat(pontoon).

Sunday night I reset everything to factory settings. Green River Lake does not have a lot of cover. I would like to be able to find some of it. I watched Youtube videos last night and my screen looks nothing like theirs.

    Any thoughts?

Go to Holmes Bend ramp, then straight across the lake to the cliff wall and scan down it .... if you don't see trees then I don't know what to tell you, they're there and you should be able to find a few. The unit is showing depth but not fish or cover ?? Does it show the bottom ??

A 7" screen is better than a 5" screen, but fish are still only going to be small white dots. Have you tried scanning with one side, instead of both sides on the screen ??

Some screenshots of what you ARE seeing might help.

I would ask if you are sure you don't have it in simulator mode, but that mode usually shows all kinds of stuff ... so I'm sure it's not in that mode.

I have a hard time remembering that thing on my hip makes pictures too.

Last night I played with the settings again and found a "fish symbol" turned off.

Why would anybody make a $600 fish finder with a turned off symbol as a factory default?

Fish symbols are pretty much worthless in my book, mainly because they pop up for every little thing in the water (most of which are NOT fish). I'm not a real big fan of 2d sonar, to start with, at least not since I went to DI units. My Hook 7 will overlay 2d on the DI .... and when I use that setting a lot of the time it tells me there are 100 fish under the boat.

I don't have much experience with Side View units, so I'm not able to offer much help in that regard. And ever since I got Livescope, my Hook 7 has become more of a map unit or DI/Map unit, mostly just to mark waypoints when I find cover, or direct me to open water cover that I already have marked.

I would already have found/marked a bunch of new waypoints on Green & Taylorsville this year, if it hadn't been for the weather (& "Rona").

i bought my 7sv 3 years ago, it was a refurbished unit. it did the same thing as your sv is doing, found out it was set on the wrong transducer. I can't remember where I found the setting for it but it had I think 8 or 10 different transducers listed . it started working great as soon as I put it on the right transducer. hope this helps, good luck

Wow! Never would I have thought about that. Guess I better start looking for numbers/letters on transducer. Thanks.

Guess I better start looking for numbers/letters on transducer.

start looking on the transducer cable about 1 foot or so from the unit. The numbers you're looking for are usually stamped on the cable about there.

Checked the transducer cable and found a sticker with the same number that one of the settings showed. That checked good. Spent half hour looking at menus. Hope it is ready to do some late year fishing now.
