    Default Taylorsville

First post y’all, I’ve read this forum for 20 years or so and have had a previous handle at some point but I never actually contributed. As far as my background in fishing, I’m an experienced angler who spends a lot of time on Taylorsville, my home lake. Being self employed I have the opportunity to fish more than most, as well as winter in Arkansas for ducks, Specks, and Snow Geese. Ive single poled, casted to the shoreline with bobbers and roadrunners, long line trolled, but I’m going to be trolling jigs and minnows over submerged structure if I have my druthers. All spring I generally stay deeper than most, trolling at depths of 10 to 20 feet (gasp the horror!). I don’t have a livescope, but I’ve been rocking a 360 for the last two years. I’m not aimlessly zigzagging up and down a ledge hoping to find a snag anymore, I’m actively targeting the fish I see in my electronics. So there you have it, a not so brief introduction. So If you see the the two old bearded tattooed fellas with the grey Basstracker, 8 poles on the side, and a chocolate lab with no tail...feel free to say hello. Now I’ll give y’all a report of what’s actually happening on the lake, wouldn’t make you read all that for nuttin.
**fished Mon Wed Thurs of this week, skipped yesterday and today. The bite on Mon before the cold front was dynamite. I was fishing in Heddy Run Branch in the old logpiles and treetops in 25-30 feet of water. Fish were all over the column from 4-12 feet. (The previous cold snap had fish schooled tight to cover and we’re very reluctant to bite. We managed 21 nice keeper crappie, with 3 times as many throwbacks. Trolling BobbyG baby shad+minna, black widow, Cajun cricket were the productive colors for the day
Wed cold front bite was very surpisingly good in the evening Installed a furnace in the am and hit the water @ 4:30 with a buddy. Managed 9 really nice keepers in 3 of fishing. Very nice fish, two over 1 lb. Egg sacks are lookin mighty thin y’all. Just an FYI. Jenko mermaid jigs +1/16oz slasher heads with Missippi Money, Grenada gold, and electric chicken. The darker jigs were not working, strangely that’s usually a go to for us.
Thurs Fished from 5-7 picked up a one man limit with several throwbacks and one pig that I shamefully tried to horse in the boat vs scoop him in.BobbyG baby shadsminna black widow electric chicken and monkey milk. I’m gonna try them in the am hope y’all left me a few.

    "back" !!

Thanks for the report & pics ... and I hope to see more of them in the coming months.

If you read my report about Slabeye & I fishing Green ... we experienced the same deal about the fish holding tight to cover & not being very aggressive in their biting. That was a far cry from the fish "slamming" the baits when OnReady and I fished Taylorsville a couple weeks ago. We got 18 nice ones on that trip (11-12" fish). Most of those had full egg sacs .... so maybe they got off a halfway decent spawn. I sure hope so !!

He was hit by a truck this year at duck camp. Very unfortunate that our lodge is right on the main drag out of Corning. But, Rocko is a tough ol bird And I’ve been working him on some retrieves on land and water. He’ll be just fine for another season god willing. In the meantime he is generally the copilot on the boat with me during not-duck season. 🦅

Good that he only lost his tail. Labs are the best!

Great post. Enjoyed reading it. I live close to Taylorsville Lake but don’t fish it much because it is not set up good for the way I fish plus it seems like it is always crowded. I plan on fishing it more this year. I normally fish Green. Thanks for the post and I’ll be looking for you when I go to Taylorsville. Thanks
