    Default Post Back Surgery Crappie

After having extensive back surgery in February, the surgeon banned me from riding or fishing in a boat for 5-6 months...so bank fishing was my only option. Finally able to fish a small canal on Blood River yesterday for a couple hrs. It felt great to feel the thump!!! 4 keepers...these pretty males were the largest... pics will include crappie and my xrays as you can tell... I'm Screwed!!!Name: 20200418_163828.jpg

Congrats on the successful surgery and getting into some crappie.

I have so many ask about my back surgery and other than the occasional late-in-the-day ache, I never even think about mine. Zero pain. Sure, I take most things slower and I’m not as daring as before but I absolutely have zero complaints. I still have some sciatica in especially my left leg but considering my damage was at 5 levels, no complaints.

The handiwork in your x-rays looks very much like mine. Dr Strenge in Paducah was my surgeon.

Glad you are doing better and had the ability to get out to fish a bit. Glad you are also doing well Doug. Will keep both of you in our prayers.

Thanks Doug!!! Wow...5 levels of disc surgery...man glad your able to get around and do what you love...even at a slower pace... I still have some residual foot and toe numbness from where the nerves continue to heal. Surgeon tells me that with the severity of my nerve compression that it may take 4-6 months to heal and up to a year for full recovery. My surgeon is Dr. Foley in Memphis.

Hoping to catch tail end of post-spawn crank bait crappie bite in June...

My surgery wasn’t 5 levels. My damage is degenerative and 5 levels. My surgery was L5/S1. It was the worse compression. Dr said it may be a couple of years or never before more surgery. He also said if I haven’t got totally rid of the sciatica by now, chances are it’s as good as it will be. I found at 60+ years old I have scoliosis. No idea how I made it thru life and 27 years of chemical plant physicals and they missed that.

Yes...we both had the same surgery called a TLIF with Decompression of L5-S1... I too have scoliosis in the lumbar region... Thank GOD for our recovery along with the blessing of enjoying what he created...sharing the water with friends and continue fishing for many more years!!!
