Default Short trip on Ky Lake 3/23

Got out to play with the Livescope and check water conditions. Hit the lake about 2 pm after giving up on the sun coming back out.
First thing a buddy flagged me down. He had been out all day and only had 9 but nice crappie. 7 had been caught early in 12’. This guy is as good as they come when it comes to spider rigging. He finished up shallower but once the clouds moved in, the fish shut down.
I ran across to LBL side and temp was around 54 in both bays I checked. West side bays were up to 57.5 degrees. LBL side is clear. Big Jonathan dingy. Little Jonathan stained.
I spent the last hour of my trip longline trolling in less than 10’.
I recently watched a longline video by Ed Duke of Southern Crappie Rods. He was using a bait he makes called a Spinnie Minnie and tipping it with a small minnow. It’s a 1/10th oz bait that reminds me of the old Tom Mann Little George. I bought some and ran some in my spread. I was also tipping many of my jigs with minnows.
I ended up with 4 keepers with one 14”. The females are really busting full of eggs.
With the heavy rain today, water conditions will change. More rain south of us means much more current to come. Name: IMG_0623.jpg

Glad you was able to get out for a bit! Thanks for sharing! I like that bait! The little George used to be one of my favorites!
    Too blessed to be stressed!

Great bait! I bought some last year after watching Ed's video. I guess the secret is out now.

Nice write up...Do you anticipate the livescope technology changing your crappie fishing techniques? I know you "troll" often, but does the livescope technology potentially change that to more single pole fishing tactics??

It was in schedule for late April then this virus shut the plant down. Who knows now? Hope your family situation is better Fred. Good to hear from you.

With the carp, we are having to work the structure that’s holding fish more thoroughly. Trolling is in my blood but sometimes you have to change to stay ahead. The Mega 360 will let me scan structure at trolling speeds. Livescope will let me work that structure fish by fish.
