Default A QUESTION FOR KENTUCKY FISHING GUIDES

Hey guys, Just wondering if any of you are canceling or postponing trips yet due to the coronavirus? I have several trips with clients scheduled in coming days but am also trying follow the guidelines being set forth by the powers at be to do my part in helping put this deadly disease into remission. I understand that a fishing trip is out in the great outdoors, but when you are fishing with someone in a boat sometimes that can be in pretty close quarters. I am contacting each of my clients to get their thoughts and feelings about it. I certainly don't want to catch the virus, but even worse would be to spread the disease to someone else (even though I do not think I have it nor have I been exposed....but you never know.) I think this is a legitimate concern and am just trying to find out what others of you think or are doing. We are living in an unprecedented time. Of course, this concerns more than just fishing guides and actually fits any fisherman who is spending time in a boat with other people.

kyfisherman, I'm not a guide, but as a possible client, here's my opinion: I think if you do what most businesses are now required to do, the clients should wear a mask when they are with you on the boat to protect you and them. I've just got tested and do not have the virus, but tomorrow, I could pick it up. Unless you get tested every day, you don't know if you have this thing until you get sick. I think this is about all you can ask your clients to do when on a guide trip to protect all on board during the trip and keep your distance between each other as much as possible

I leave it up to my clients. I took March and April off last year due to my idiot governor.

I was just tested for the 5th time and had a positive test in early November after my wife got very sick with Covid. My test on Saturday was negative. I’m having a colonoscopy Wed and had to be negative for it.

I welcome my clients to wear masks, gloves, face shields, space suits. I don’t care but I won’t provide anything other than hand sanitizer.

If a client has reservations about fishing with me, I’ll work their deposit out with them. I run a 23 foot boat that allows lots of room.

Back in July I had a scare when Dr found a perforated diverticulitis area in my colon when I had a CAT Scan. It had almost breeched into my abdomen. My surgeon hoped he could treat it with hyper doses of strong antibiotics. They worked.

Today I had a colonoscopy so he could check the area. He came to my recovery room and told Vicki and me the area had healed, no polyps or suspicious areas, eat lots of high fiber foods, and come back in 5 years.

As we walked to her car I asked her if fried crappie was high fiber. She just shook her head.

I also took clients out after as Dux said "Our idiot governor" cancelled us out. Wear what you want but by early May last year I was fishing. Not one client wore a mask. EVER. Only had one client all year that used hand sanitizer sitting on my console and mentioned at beginning of every trip. and that was after mentioning to her that no one had used it yet. Some repeat people even hugged me. No handshakes but lots of friendship and that's what a trip is about. I use a pontoon and take up to six people and even had a group that had had covid a month earlier...light cases. I'm down a little over 100 pounds since August 2019 to October 2020 and some repeat customers were afraid to mention this for fear of me having cancer. Nope, just balding and adding years to my old life I hope. Had people from all over the Good ol US ofA and no problems. Had a bad chest cold in March but have never been tested. Headache at that time too. Diane slightly sick too. Funny story. Went with a guide friend of mine fishing. Took a selfie. It was cold and I took a selfie which I rarely do. His wife was pissed . She was scared to death of Covid. Well, I got put on the "no fish list" with him for awhile! Great pic tho!! Get outdoors and enjoy the woods. Walking a deer trail with my wife and grand daughter is memories I'll never forget til I'm dead. And hopefully still remember in the afterlife. Hope I got 25 more to go in me!!Here are a few pics. Started at 290 pounds. Hovering between 185 and 190 pounds now. My son is a body builder and is 6' 6" and 250 pounds of muscle and picked me up. Life goes full circle!! LET'S GO FISHING!!

Good job Rich. I lost 50 pounds before my hip replacement and will have to start back on my Atkins-type diet to get the next 30 or so pounds off. Took the holidays off my diet and that scale says the 5-6 pounds I gained back are my motivation. It sure is good to find all the jeans and shirts I haven't worn in 15 years fit again. I just ordered new Striker Ice rain gear and got 2X. This time last year I would have worried if 3X was going to work.
