    Default Marine Service

I recently had my boat serviced and was surprised at the cost, couldn't believe it.
I took my boat to S.M.I Marine on Westport Rd in Jefferson county Ky. for lower unit service, water pump kit and bearings on both wheels. They told me the turn around time on it would be about 3 weeks. I was expecting that, but they called me after 2 weeks and said come get it.
When they handed me the bill I ask if they were sure they did everything I ask and they said yes of course why do you ask? Well I still can't believe what they charged me for all that. The total bill was only $360 and I was figuring at least $500
Needless to say if I need boat work I'll go back. I was very happy with their service and PRICE. Boat work ain't cheap !!

    What is their labor rate??

    Not that much in parts.
    New bearings and inner seals?
Water pump impeller only or new ride plate and housing?
    Lower unit grease/ oil?
Just wondering if they gave you an itemized bill?
Curious because I service my own stuff.
    Thanks

Yes, itemized bill, labor rates weren't as high as I expected them to be. Parts were about the same as the last time when I did it myself. DISCLAIMER at 77 years of age it's worth it to have someone else do the work, old bones and joints don't like all that stooping and bending.

    Understand that for sure.
Labor rates are 85-95 per hour around here.
Problem now days is finding a place that has mechanics that even care about their work quality.
That’s why I always do that stuff myself. Might take 3-4 times as long but when done I know it’s done right.
Sucks getting old and having to rely on someone else to do stuff we did ourselves. I’m 65 and experiencing that myself.
But every day above ground is a good day.
