    Default Barren advice

Normally just cast jigs and some floats during the spring for crappie, but man it seems super tough with all this super high water. Would someone care to lend some advice on looking for crappie at Barren? I feel like most of the fish and baitfish I see on graphs are a good 15 ft or so deep and scattered, but not sure the crappie are hanging there or not. Thanks

I have never fished barren. Always said I was going to go there or Nolin but never find the time to get that way. I would offer up some advice if I had it. I am sure someone will message you with something to work with. Good luck and let us know how you do.

Only fished it for bass and hybrids back in the day. I’m sure some of the regulars to the lake will offer advice. I do know it has some nice crappie in it! So good luck!

Kycrappie .... you might want to send a PM to "badbrad" and ask him. He's a KDFWR Officer for Barren & would know most all there is to know about the situation.

Barren is tough now with the high water. Fished it last week and also found most fish deep, 15-20’. Nolin is within 2’ of summer pool and I’ve talked to guys that are doing well with jigs and minnows in brush piles. We plan to try some Saturday. If your not familiar with Nolin, check this site and click on Nolin lake.

Good deal, I thought I was crazy seeing fish that deep at 47 degrees. I guess no matter what they'll tend to hang out at the summer pool level?

We've given up on Barren for the time being and switched to Nolin. Right now there are only 2 or 3 ramps open at Barren and they are backdown only. 6" of rain predicted the next few days so its only gonna get worse.
As far as where to fish when its at a decent level....Peters creek and Browns Ford are your best bets.
    Good Luck!

Oh yea, thanks for the reply. Normal water levels I feel decent, but this high water the past 2 years is really tough. Didn't know if someone had any success ideas with the water so high.
