    Default Boat questions

I’m new to fishing and boating. I have a 1994 Sea Nymph 16 foot with a 50hp Motor
do I need a foil on the motor? I put a stingray foil on and wondering if it was to much.
    thanks all

that would be hard to say without knowing how it performs without it. However there might be someone that has that same set up and will chime in on it.

I don't really understand your question. You stated you already put the Stingray foil on it. Are you unhappy with the performance? I ran some type of foil on all my lower HP motors. That said, a foil won't make up for a mis-matched or damaged prop.

just wondering if a person could to big of one on the motor...and yes my prop does have some nicks in it...

when I put it in the lake Thursday ( first time ) and went full throttle it tilted to the left a little..maybe I just need to take it out more, adjusting the trim, with the foil and without...get a new prop...thanks all for the responses

That leaning to the left is probably more to do with load balance. Foil won’t hurt a thing unless motor is way to low in water which I doubt. That foil helps lift rear of boat and hold nose down to help plain off and keep a more level attitude at slower speed. I’m like M R Dux have always had them on smaller motors and they do make a difference.

    This!!!

That's more than enough motor for that boat, shouldn't be any issues. I'm guessing it has the wrong prop on there.

I run a 17 ft Lowe with a 40 hp, no foil. No leaning issues or any of that. I use a 4 blade prop as it gives the stern more lift, allows me to stay on plane at lower speeds, and gives me more thrust and control when having to navigate in rough waters/waves.

A foil is used to aide in a better hole shot or to help eliminate porpoise. Now the down side to a foil on a motor where the cavitation plate isnt above water level, it will in some case cause a boat to lean right or left while underway. LDS

A foil is nothing more than a band-aid for an improper setup. The correct prop and setup will give you good hole-shot and no porpoising.
