How is crappie fishing on cedar

some friends of mine claimed they did good the other night under lights. have several times this summer. showed me a picture of a cooler full. I've tried spider rigging it three times this year with no luck (daytime). caught few dinks and some nice bass that were a handfull on 12 ft poles.
