Default The Old Eastside of KY Lake

Anyone here remember the days before Barkley and Land Between The Lakes?

I was about 4 when we stayed at Pearl Forrest resort about 1958, it was soon after that we had to move.
We moved to Sharon Lee Resort for a few years. Anybody remember these places or are they memories lost in my mind.

We had some grand times. The family has dwindled but my wife and I continue our trips to KY Lake a couple of times a year.

Staying at King Creek Sept 22 thru Sept 27. We have a pontoon rented for 4 days.

Jonathan Creek is an easy reach. Would this be a good area to fish?

We just want to catch and release (maybe keep a few Crappie if lucky).

    Thanks All,
    Alan

I was in 3rd grade when a bunch of families were finally forced out of LBL and resettled in our community. I don’t remember anything on the Ky Lake side but have memories I treasure from the area under Barkley.

Jonathan can be a real stretch if there are north or south winds above 10mph.

So, where should we fish? Main channels or other coves?
    Thank you MR DUX

Jonathan will be good if the winds are calm. Little Bear, LBL bays like Smith and Pisgah, secondary channel either side of Big Bear.

I'd be curious to hear your review of King Creek. I believe it's recently under new ownership, when I stayed there in '09 and '10 it was "rough" to say the least. I have been noticing some nice newer pontoons on the lake with their logo, curious if they've put more money into the cabins too, because they needed it.

I know they have some new boat slips and the place looks clean. No idea on accommodations.

They have only a few cabins, it's mainly an RV park. They treat us very nice, the wife and I have gone back once or twice a year for 7 years and we always book well in advance to get our favorite cabin #8.
Jim Bloomert (SP) 0wns the place. He's a hard working no bull guy but if you stay there he treats you right. We like it a lot.

They were hit by a tornado about 3 years ago, docks and slips have been rebuilt. MR DUX likely remembers the storm I'm talking about.
If you want luxury this isn't your place but if you are happy with clean cabins and good people King Creek is the place.

I stayed with them twice, once was I think in #8 which was a simple concrete block cabin, and the other time was an actual house trailer that they rented. You're right, not fancy, but at least clean. The thing I didn't like was that the linens seemed to be about the same age as the cabin, and the marina is basically on dry ground this time of year. Very nice people both times I stayed there, but that's been 8 or 9 years ago. Their off-season rate is hard to beat, they used to give discounts for repeat customers too, back when we stayed there the secret discount phrase was "captain hook returns."

They go out of their way to treat us well.
