    Default Herrington Lake Marina Floatels

Need input from anyone who has been to HLM and used their 'floatels'. Looks like a one room motel, couple beds, refrigerator, small dresser, small table and a TV. The 'floatel' is attached to the dock. You can dock your boat in front of your 'floatel'. You have no running water/bathroom, but showers/bathroom are within 50-100ft to use. They also have a restaurant that looks ok. A little pricy, but worth it if it keeps you from driving 15-20 miles to eat. Rates seem OK during the week, $55/night, $75/night on weekends. May take a trip there in the next couple months and stay a few days. Didn't find any info on fish cleaning facilities or Bait at the dock. Plan to call them with questions, but would like to here from someone who's stayed there.
Thanks Redge thanked you for this post

I have not stayed there, but as for "fish cleaning stations" ... I don't think there are any such facilities anywhere on the lake. At least I have never seen any at any of the marinas I've been to on the lake. That's not to say that there are none, as I don't frequent the lake as often as I did in previous decades ... and there may well have been some added "somewhere" on the lake in recent years, I just don't know of any.

From my experiences with that marina .... they're weren't exactly what I would call "fishermen friendly", and tended to cater more to the houseboat & ski boat crowd. But, again ... that's my experience from many years ago, and they could have changed their ways since then.

Pappy, thanks for the reply. Yep, I was at the Herrington Lake Marina on a trip that I took lately to check out all the marina's I could. Some were about to sink into the lake as I saw(in bad shape). Most of the 'better' marinas were how you described, not fisherman friendly, mostly for the launch fee ($10) and for parties/events, boat storage rentals on the water, selling you some food, gas. Just trying to find a place I can go and stay near a lake within about 2 hours that does cater or at least know what a fisherman needs when he stays there. Kentucky and Barkley places seem to cater to the fisherman (along with others that don't fish). Maybe Green River would be my best chance. I guess the marinas at Herrington no longer care much about the fisherman as in years ago. The only fish cleaning place I used (15 years ago) was at Gwynn Island. It may not be there now.

Well, you've got Cave Run, Taylorsville, Cumberland, and Green ... all within 2hrs drive time. Green does have "floatels" down by the dam at Green River Marina, but they're expensive. ( Floating Cabins – Green River Marina ) And I don't know if they have a fish cleaning station.

Holmes Bend has cabins overlooking the lake, and does have a fish cleaning station on the dock.

But, yeah ... most marinas make their living off boat slips for houseboats & such, with the fishing crowd coming in as an afterthought.

t.slabseeker (Tim Marple) does have a cabin for rent, just off the road going to Holmes Bend Marina (about 1.5mi away from marina). He also guides on Green. https://www.crappie.com/crappie/kent...-the-get-away/ You can contact him by PM for rates & available dates.

My dad and I fished out of Pandora for many years. I think the same family has been running the place since the '70's. You might try them.

Yeah, the Bartley family has owned the marina since 1973 ... but it's a whole lot bigger nowadays, extending out of the cove almost to the Kennedy Bridge. And speaking of the bridge .... the old one is gone & a new, wide bridge has taken its place (just finished being built this year). But, Pandora doesn't have any cabins. Weekend night Bass tournaments are launched out of Pandora, so parking there is limited if not impossible.

Don't know if it's still the same, but there were times when there would be 2-3 Night Bass tournaments going on at the same time. Out of Pandora, Chimney Rock, and Bryant's Camp launches ... And it always seemed like every boat would run to the opposite end of the lake from where they launched.

Pappy, I was at Pandora on my survey 'trip'. Yep, they have at least two covered areas with charts for the tournaments results in the parking lot for various nights. I guess if you are not a 'Green Carp' fisherman, you are out of luck at this lake.

I dunno. We fished Herrington for thirty years for crappie and bluegill and always did well.

Do you have to stay at the lake? Burgin's ten minutes from the lake, and Harrodsburg's about twenty.

I started fishing Herrington back in my pre-teen years, mostly Crappie fishing but occasionally for the White Bass spawning run & Summer "jumps". I added Bass fishing there in my late teens, and still fish it for Bass about once or twice a year. I have fished it in Bass tournaments (early 1970's) when I was a member of the ABF. It's not the same "Bass" lake as it once was, decades ago.

But, the Bass fishing & tournament anglers are not exclusive to Herrington ... they're prominent at most all lakes in the state.

I used to fish it for Bluegill/Sunfish back as a youngster (w/Grandparents) in July/August, using crickets or horseweed worms (stalk borer grubs). I've probably posted several times about using horseweed worms, but the pics/links are gone (as evidenced in this 2004 thread : https://www.crappie.com/crappie/main...appy-question/ )
But a Google search for "horseweed worms" will supply you with plenty of pics and sites that talk about using them.
