    Default thinking about trolling cranks

When you are pushing those $6 Picos with ounces of lead 4' in front of them and you hang that baby up in a brush pile, how do you get it out? I have a bait knocker that has served me well for 40 years, but it won't be any good with that weight up front.

    Just wondering.
The opinions in my posts may or may not be my own views and may or may not represent other individuals or groups depending on my mood at the time.

The following statement is true. The previous statement is false.

    Most times you don't.
But, brushpiles aren't the only thing that can/will take a crank away from you. There are slimy whiskered fish, toothy fish, and even large trash fish that can take a crank home with them.

There is a way to get your crank back (but not the treble hooks) .... but, that $6.00 crank is going to cost you a few bucks more. You could use Ultimate Luresaver Titanium Split Rings, if you can find them.

Just get used to the idea, that you need Pico on speed dial!
As CP stated everything wants your picos!

Navionics and Lake Master cards will also take your money. They will tell you the water is twenty foot deep, and you find it to be five. Like my dad once told me, When your able to stand on a bridge and throw hundred dollar bills in the lake, only then will you be ready to buy a boat.

I pull with 12 lb big game line and still lose about 30 to 40 cranks a year.

This will happen. That’s why some order blanks, like c-55’s, and paint them. On your card issue, for Humminbird lakemaster use your offset under charts to re calibrate your mapping to current water conditions. This should keep you in accurate reading water. Keep an eye out for yard sales to pick up other cranks. While picos are very good lures, by all means others catch fish also. Try bandits, flicker shad, wiggle warts, arkie, etc. good luck.

As fast as you can you let line of as you are picking up the pole and don't pull on it and at the same time you start turning the boat as fast as you can and go exactly the opposite way and put you thumb on the line with the pole pointing straight at the spot you are hung and keep going....I get back about 9 out of 10 cranks back doing that...probably lose 4 or 5 cranks a year. I lose more to catfish and musky than I do to brush......
