it is a shallow lake full of stumps in the main sections. this time of year should have a lot of fun fishing in the trees and knees around them. plus hit the duck blinds. if your a rigger just float around main lake and you should do well. dip in the lily pads and of course grab a map and make a game plan. all kinds of different types of structure to fish. Enjoy!

I saw where the lake is 1' above summer pool. Just looking for general ideas on clarity and temps. Thanks for tips!

I fished Reelfoot three days last week. Didnt burn the crappie up, but caught a decent bunch of fish. Caught a few on jigs around trees, but most fish came spider-righong with minnows and jigs tipped with minnows. Fish were caught in the area called Moultrie Field. It's unusually hot this time of year. Water is in good shape. Electric chicken tipped with minnows was the best jig color. I grew up fishing Reelfoot Lake and love the lake. I live in KY now, but still go back a couple of times a year.

    That's supposed to say "spider-rigging."

I’ll be down there the same time frame . I have a duck blind on the lake that we guide out of (Jolley’s Guide Service) and we actually have been tossing the idea around of fishing trips as well. I am not from there but probably spend a few months of the year collectively on the lake. Right now the crappie are just really turning on after a very poor spring by anyone’s standards. The bluegill are bedding, I literally just spoke with a buddy who is in the Samburg area that has a cooler full of them right now. Moultrie Field, Green Island Point, Swan basin, are all good places to look for crappie. Submerged logs and lily pads should be your focus, maybe even jigging some trees. Shorelines, pads and trees are holding bluegill right now. Catfish is often overlooked but my friends dad owns the fish market in samburg and I have first hand info that they are also biting all over the lake on just about any kind of cover you want to fish. Having said all that, it’s a tough lake sometimes. you have to keep moving until you find fish, And the Pit, Lakeview and Boyettes close early so get your grub on by 7.

Thank you everyone for tips and reports. We didn't do well on crappie but caught some nice gills and channel cats. Had great weather and had a good time. Nothing like pulling in 1 lb gills and 3 lb catfish on ultralight spinning gear!

Glad, you had a fun trip, I love ultra light fishing. Catching 2/3# cats on 2# line is a trip. Big gills are my passion.
