    Default Lake Barkley

The Wife and I are heading down in the morning, gonna be staying at the Lake Barkley Resort, was looking for any information on the crappie and red ear. All information would be appreciated. Did hear from the Marina that the fish cleaning station is now open.

    Thanks

Caught ten redear today in about 4ft of water on redworms. Fish were close to the bank, a chunk rock bank. I think they target the snails amongst the rocks.

I have caught Crappie still full of eggs in 3 to 5 feet of water on minnows, jigs or a combo of each. Friend went out yesterday, he caught 14 keepers, but said none of his had eggs, maybe reaching the end of the spawn. I think you can do well on either, oh Electric Chicken best producer for me.

My clients had 19 keepers Saturday from KY Lake water 12-20 feet deep and every one had eggs ready to lay. Crappie or any spawning fish don't keep a calendar. Spawn occurs when the water temps get to optimum. Surface temp at 2 pm was 64 degrees. 5 feet deep in 20 feet of water would be several degrees cooler.

Mr. Wynn. I heard you speak at Murray fishing show about using the Berkeley cherry wood rods for trolling crankbaits. What length and action do you prefer? Thank you

One thing to bear in mind. Iím from Oklahoma, I read threads from all states. So I canít offer any advice since I have never been on this lake.
Therefore 170 views doesnít necessarily mean itís 170 people with knowledge of the lake.
Looks like you got some nice ones!

I use the 7' medium heavy right off the shelf at WalMart. The medium action would be fine, maybe easier for some folks to detect strikes while trolling. WalMart has those on their web site. The Cherrywood rods are my transom rods. My side rods are all Southern Crappie Rods.
