    Default Crappie Eggs

    Hey Pappie,
You are always describing the egg condition or even asking about egg condition in the crappie. What information can we glean from the state of the eggs?
BTW, hit Green yesterday. Wind was brutal. Caught fish on the flats and in deep bays. Actually caught a few casting. Males r really prettied up. My partner fishes Taylorsville thru the week usually, and he is amazed at the difference in the crappie fishing between the 2 lakes right now.
    Be safe.

I'm just trying to cipher how close they are to starting to drop those eggs. It's always been my understanding that when the eggs are "gold" colored & the sac has lots of large blood veins showing .... they're close. The bright yellow eggs are still a ways off from being dropped. A fairly "firm" egg sac is still in the "not quite yet" category, but a slightly "mushy" egg sac is in the "close" category, and of course if the fish is "spurting" eggs when caught & handled ... she's actively seeking mates.

You don't have to tell me about the "brutal wind" .... I fought it all day, yesterday at Taylorsville. I thought about going to Green, then remembered that this is the week of pre-fishing for the CUSA tourney this coming weekend ... so I opted to give Taylorsville another go. Paul and I kept 12 good keepers & the 16" Saugeye that Paul caught.

    Thank you!

A google search did not turn up much on egg condition. I will be paying more attention to from now on.
I am off this week. I plan to hit Green again before the weekend.

Here is a good example of what I would think is close to spawning. Name: 20190413_132028.jpg

Yeah, that's kinda what I'm calling "gold" & heavy blood vein. And you can kinda see the larger "size" of the individual eggs.

The eggs I saw in the T-ville fish were +/- a light/bright yellow (like the color in this emoji - ) with only minimal blood vein appearance. The "size" of each individual egg was still pretty small.

I have caught them at T-ville in the second week of May & still spawning (years past) ... some even as deep as 8ft. (but the water color was quite clear at that time).
