    Default Cave Run Lake

I plan on making a few trips down to Cave Run this year with a friend. My friend is telling me he thinks there is something required (like maybe a permit) for the launch ramps. I can't find anything online. I did find a list of numbered launch ramps showing some had fees (I'm assuming private) and some were free (I'm assuming public). However, I can't find a map showing me where the ramps are located.
I've been down there a few times years ago but we always launched from the campgrounds and I don't remember much about it.
Thanks in advance for any help.

I bought the yearly pass last year. I think it cost $30. You can get it at almost all bait shops around the lake or the cave run visitors center. It’s just a plastic hang tag that hangs from your rearview mirror in your vehicle. It is required for most (if not all) boat ramps, and campsites.

Max ..... yes there is a "parking/launch" fee at some of the ramps, and there should be a fee box at those locations. It's $5 and there should be a envelope with a tear-off tag to hang on your vehicle's rear view mirror. I mostly launch at the Alfrey ramp, and that's the way it was there last time I went (several years ago).

You may have already seen this site, but it does list the sites where a permit is necessary : Daniel Boone National Forest - Cave Run Lake

On that site there's this link : Daniel Boone National Forest - Twin Knobs Recreation Area .... and you can zoom the map in and out & it will show you all the launch sites, recreation/camp sites, hiking trails, etc.

Or you could use Google Earth (if you have that on your PC) or Google Maps .... and work your way around the lake to spot the launch ramps (& the roads leading to them).

You would also be interested in studying this map : Cave Run Lake Fish Attractors - Google My Maps .... which shows the GPS location of all the extensive habitat drop sites the the KDFWR has put in Cave Run Lake over the last few years.

You might also want to know the current water level, so here's this site : Louisville District Daily Lake Report ... and if you click on the highlighted lake name or current water level number, you can also get some more relevant info.

Thanks guys, I guess he's right.
Pappy, thanks for all those links. I'll check them out.
I didn't think to look at Daniel Boone National Forest for info.

I think they have done away with the boxes. You have to buy a daily pass or annual pass. This is a National Forest Pass.

SNA Krappie Masters has started a tournament trail on Cave Run. They will be monthly tournaments. If place within the top ten of the classic tournament or finish in top 5 spots on the totally year will be able to go to the state tournament which be held at Green River the 6th of June. There is tournament schedule for this Saturday 26th. Come on down.

Thanks for the invite Little John but we don't doo tourneys. We've been just trying to get as much info on a few lakes in Ky that we plan on fishing this year.
I hope this rain and snow settle down for you guys and the temps warm up just a little. I love fishing these winter months but these fluctuating water levels make it tough.

If they have done away with the boxes, then it must have been done since March 2018. This is what the USDA site says :

    PAY AT SITE FEES
Payment envelopes are provided at sites that require feesto be deposited at the recreation site. Accepted paymentsare cash or check. Change is not available. State and localtaxes apply to some fee areas.

But then it also says the fee is $3.00 at the Alfrey ramp & is dated March 2017

Probably the best idea is to CALL and ask:

Crappiemax. FYI, I bought a book at Walmart while back since moving back to KY, 'Sportsman's Connection' KENTUCKY FISHING MAPS GUIDE BOOK that I consider the best investment I ever made. It has 70 KY lakes, Contour fishing maps, Fish Stocking & Surveys listed, local fishing tips, info, All lake Access information, (ramps, camps, fee info) and suggested fishing spots on each lake reported by local shops, fishermen. I'm not soliciting for this book, but with the maps and all the information on all these KY lakes, it's great. For example, it shows all the ramp locations for Cave Run and if a fee is charged or if it's free. It also has driving maps to each lake.
