    Default Winter Fishing at Tville

Anybody having any luck? Gonna try and get out there this weekend for some slabs. Not looking for spots but should I try standing timber or find some brush piles this time of year? How deep? Thanks..

Haven't been there in quite a while, but this is what I know :

Lake is currently at SUMMER Pool & falling pretty fast (like ~ 1ft/day). If they keep it draining at that rate, it will be at Winter Pool by Sunday.

When I use to fish it (from the bank) in Dec/Jan/Feb ... I always found them to be hanging out over deadfall trees that were on steep banks, but would usually be suspended about 8ft deep & about midways of the length of the tree. Now that was a long time ago, and I only knew of 2 trees that met those conditions ... both of which are long since gone from their previous locations. One was to the right of the Settler's ramp, and the other was just downstream of the Chowning ramp. That was back when I was using hollow tube jigs (blu/char) on 1/16oz jigheads .... and I saw no real difference in the "thump" than what I'd experienced during the warmer months.

Even back before then, when we went there in Nov., we'd tie off to standing timber in 30fow & fish with minnows at about 8-12ft deep.

No guarantees, but with those experiences in mind .... I'd start checking out these types of spots with my electronics, and keep my bait presentations in the 5-15ft depth range.

8-12 ft deep is still a good winter depth at Taylorsville

Well, our day was cut short..long story there...but we tried a little bit of everything. Standing timber, lay downs, but had our best luck jigging one brush pile in about 12 feet. Had to wade through some short fish but ended up with a few keepers. Nothing on standing timber but did catch a few on laydowns with a Roadrunner, also landed a nice bass on it. Fished about 3 hours. Just a side note, I'm kind of new at Crappie fishing so trying to figure out when I should be casting versus jigging.

Thanks for the help, I'll post back when I get back out and can get some more time.

Hey, you did better than we did on our last trip to T-ville (and that trip was months ago )

Heck ... I'd have been proud of myself to have even "found" fish in 3hrs, let alone catch any

I'll be honest with you ... I cast 98% of the time at T-ville, and really only vertical jig when the cover is such that I can't cast and get my bait to the proper depth. That's not very often, but it does occur. And even in those few circumstances, I'm more likely to Vertical Cast than to actually vertical jig.

Here's what I mean by Vertical Cast : Crappie Pappy Article

Glad you got out there after'em, and managed to actually experience some pullage ... and thanks for the report !! Do keep us updated on any future trips. (just don't be "too specific" about the WHERE you found'em when making your reports ... and if you take pics, don't let the scenery in the background give away your location)
