We moved to Calloway county on Ky lake full time in 2015 and live about 200 yards from the water and 400 yards from our private community ramp on Blood River.
our neighbors are GREAT and the scenery and wildlife are amazing. We live on a dead end road with half a dozen houses, maybe 10 cars a day go down the road. plenty of room to keep all the toys and plenty of TVA land to hunt on.
The Carp really have me worried though, gotta really work hard for the fish now.

We bought a place at Marvel Estates. We knew about the Asian Carp before we decided to buy and took the chance, hopefully something will happen. We will move and live there full time in about a year and a half. Beautiful lake it would be a shame to just let it go. You have to realize if your lake doesn't have the problem, your just 1 emptied minnow bucket away from it.

Killum, I think the area is great with very good people. Now, the situation there with lake lot ownership is now is like living in a gated community with a golf course at your back yard that has closed. The lake will soon be useless for fishing and recreational use due to the carp taking over the majority of species in the lake and jumping everywhere as you go out on the lake to ski, tubing, etc. At least you will still have a view of the lake, whether you use it or not. The golf course shutdown destroys this for the only thing, 'the view', there were trees growing in my view of the fairway. When the golf course shut down at Player's course in SC, the property values eventually dropped 40%(it looked like terrible after 3 years of no maintenance). I'm worried this will happen to all the good folks at KY/Barkley. I don't think the 'view' of the lake will justify the price for homes there without the lake being stable with a 'normal' fish population. If I was an owner now at the lakes, I would get a re-assessment of my property value and get a reduction in my property tax. If it hurts them on revenue, then they may do something to help.
Now, the good story about the golf course is that the property owners bought the course, and is now perfect and homes are selling above normal value.
Hope this makes sense to all.

There are several places for sale close to the lake. Depends on your price range.

Lake Barkley
We live at Eddy Creek and we are not there for the shopping. Walmart is 15 minutes and great shops at Kuttawa as well. Cadiz and Paris are not that far and about an hour ands half tomNashville for serious shopping.
4 years and we love it. We do spend our winters at Lake Kissimmee Florida as fish everyday there. Stay in our motorhome
