My heart is saddened and my eyes run over at the loss of this great friend. Have spent many days in his boat chasing the mighty Muskie. He and Peggy have literally caught them by the hundreds. John was a great fisherman, a loyal friend, and a person who would give you the shirt off his back. I wish everyone could have known him. He will be missed by all who did! Good by old friend!

I think I talked to him during one of my trips to Green. Does anybody have any details of what happened?

Doug, this is all I could find out :

On September 5, 2018 at 17:58pmET, the Taylor County Coroner's Office was notified that Divers with Campbellsville Fire-Rescue had recovered the body of 64 year old John Switser of Lebanon, KY. from Green River Lake.

Switser was the sole occupant in a single boat accident. Campbellsville Fire-Rescue was dispatched to a "boat going in circles, without a driver" at around 11amET, today, Wednesday, September 5, 2018.

An Autopsy will be performed in Louisville by the State Medical Examiner. Deputy Coroner Jason Wright and Fish & Wildlife Officer John Harris are investigating.

Agencies assisting include: Campbellsville Fire-Rescue, Taylor County Sheriff , KY Fish & Wildlife and US Army Corps of Engineers - GRL

Prayers for his family. Don’t want to sound cruel but kill switch and life jacket. Can save your life and only takes a few seconds to put on.

    Thanks for that info Pappy.

We were talking at breakfast about this incident. I assume the current rescue squads are schooled in new and current electronics. I've often thought about the scenario of me falling overboard while trolling by myself. I don't use my big engine much to troll but I do occasionally. My GPS is on 100% of the time I'm on the water and it's marking a track of my location. I'm wondering if the rescue squads are taught to go to the electronics on a boat in a situation like above and trace the tracks back to a possible place such an accident might have happened? Even a boat running in circles isn't going to stay in an exact track due to wind, waves, or current. With my remote "NAV" button on, my boat isn't going to vary course very much but at least the track might give some indication when an overboard situation might have happened.

I try to support my local rescue squad financially as often as I can and wouldn't trade jobs with them for any amount of money.

BTW, if my Terrova or Suzuki are at trolling speed, I rarely wear my PFD or kill switch and don't require my clients to do so.
