Well, by chance or just our polluting ways have come up with a viable chemical solution to these invasive species. Very long article but very interesting. It's funny how each state involved feels they are the one's leading the way in this fight.

It appears again that our povernment wants to build a better mouse trap while spending unbelievable amounts of money when we potentially have the chemical recipe right before our eyes.

It's time to get busy, start wearing out our congressional representatives with this article.

The pollution idea is just one scientist's hypothesis to what is causing the carp front to remain relatively static in that Illinois river. If the solution is using a herbicide that was almost banned, a diabetes drug, and psych meds in our water, then no thanks. All these substances have the potential to bioaccumulate in the flesh of the crappie that we're all after, not to mention will show up in our drinking water.

Anybody that thinks the answer to the carp problem will come from the government doesn't remember Ronald Reagan's famous quote: "The scariest ten words in the English language are: I'm from the government and I am here to help."

Good article. Verifies my statements from the last eight years. A) they were authorized by our government to be brought in. B) they were utilized by multiple state, federal, local agencies along with sanctioned privatized entities in their introduction. C) all this carp crap didn’t start in a couple of catfish ponds. I’m just awaiting future verification of D) opinion.

I live 35 miles from Havana Ill. This is the area you always see on TV when they show the mega numbers of silver carp jumping. I have been hit in all parts of the body, Head,Stomach, Legs, and yes even in the nether regions. You catch a 15 lb carp to the head and you know you have been hit. We used to boat, tube and spend the weekends on the sand bars every summer for years. Since the silvers have gotten bad ,about 18 years now, we don't go boating on the river anymore. The riverboat captain that didn't think they were as big a problem as the government is making out needs to come down here. I will take him in my boat and he can pull his grandchildren on a tube behind it. I won't do it because I wouldn't want to potentially kill or really hurt a kid. There is a real problem here. If the government can send 150 million to Iran it seems that they could kick in 15 cents per pound to make it viable for commercial fisherman to rid our lakes and rivers of this plague. A 65% bio mass in the Ill. river that used to have good to great bass, crappie and cat fishing is a real shame. Having Kentucky and Barkley lakes decimated is a terrible thing and it is just a matter of time till the rest of the Tenn. river valley is overrun. I don't really know if the Mississippi River can ever be cleaned up from them either. My rant is over.

Yesterday on Barkley the silvers were stacked up in the bays, I had one bouncing around on my bimini top and another on the back deck flopping in the transom well. I was doing 4 mph. I can't imagine being dive bombed by them at 30 mph plus. People were pulling their kids on inflatable towables, everywhere. it's just a matter of time, a terrible tragedy will happen. And try separating the carp returns on the sonar from gamefish, impossible.
