Money is the root of all evil. This goes back to the beginning when I was in my mid 20,s as I used to hang around a few elites when Ray Scott started Nat. Bass in His first attempts to put on a few tourneys long before BASS became a organization and he even had a magazine. He would call everybody up and spread the word to have a tourney on a lake and everybody would show up and kick in 50 bucks to a pot, we all camped and swapped stories. Guys like Tom Mann, Cotton Cordell, and a eventually a fellow by the name of Jonny Morris, showed up selling Lures and fishing gear out of the backs of their vehicles to name a few. We learned around the campfires how to fish those Lures until the entry fees were raised higher with the payouts more money. Needless to say, the comradely ended and so did the campfires and BASS was off and running. I could go on and on with this story as it is still being written today but you all know this story, money can ruin everything sometimes that starts out fun as our competitive drives urges the winning spirit inside us to win sometimes at any cost. Maybe Haynes didn’t feel like it was worth a fight over a spot would leave a bad taste in his mouth and his love of tournament fishing wasn’t worth the price of a win this weekend at this cost? Some guys are ate up with this sport and maybe he just didn’t like the way the episode was worth his style of winning? A lot of you guys used to fish bass tourneys including me, and we have our reasons for giving them up.
