You know, I'm to the point where I'll put my money where my mouth is. I'll happily give a piece of money to the right efforts to eradicate these things.

They need to appeal to lake front owners and sportsmen if they need to raise money. This problem isn't getting fixed without money...

A couple of years ago they had a tournament for the gill-netters. They removed tons of the things, and never made a dent. I don't suppose what a bunch of "bow-fishermen" take is going to amount to a hill-of-beans (as my daddy would say). It is going to take a biological approach to get them either thinned out or all dead. Something along the lines of what Australia did to get rid their carp (not Asian) problem. They found a strain of herpes virus that did not affect other species and got rid of most of them. OR - the good Lord will solve the problem for us somehow.

I stated this exactly over a year ago, and was told NO very quickly.
The government needs to pony up plenty of the concoction, deliver to the extreme locations of these fishes existence in every watershed, and go on a all out war, all in mentality and kill these darn things.
It won't take long for our native fish to recover, and we will have our waters back.

It's time to take our waters back, and not be so scared of the limp wristed environmental groups. It's time to take serious action, our government needs to man up, because reality is quickly setting in. Drastic times call for drastic measures.

What scares me is that if the "forces that be" don't do something quickly along these lines, someone on their own is going to. Then the environmental mess that ensues is going to take forever to neutralize.

The crappie now are in deep decline and when it catches up to the bass a lot of people whose living depends on them, and a bunch who pursue them, some with bass-boats approaching $100K are going to find a "quick and dirty" way to so.

They say when the problem reaches the Great Lakes the effect is going to be in the billions (that is billions with a B) of dollars category. Some whacko is going to use that as justification to poison the waters.

God help us then. It is going to be a case of: Shoulda - Woulda - Coulda by then.

Yep, to all, I personally would send $100 to our sharp people at KFWF to fund an effort to come up with something that would kill or minimize the Asian Carp. I'm in central KY, but I'm sure they will be here shortly. I grew up fishing for Carp in pay lakes, but, man, I hate to think this is will be the 90% fish population in the future for most lakes/rivers in KY. I would bet KY and Barkley are currently at 70-90% by volume/mass/weight loaded with Asian Carp as of now however you want to 'spin' this as far as the current populations in the Lakes. Just think they will not admit to this even if the did the 'shocking' studies. The Tourist/Guide Industry related to fishing would be decimated if this was anywhere close to my estimate. I just hope the panfish population will not be affected by the Carp, but, we will see in the current and next couple years at KY and Barkley.

I second that. I fished there a lot when I was a youngster.

Typically, mother nature and nature take care of their own. For example, the hurricanes that hit Lake Okeechobee and destroyed the fishing for years, have come back and rivaling the old days. Again, nature is taking care nature.

Now, enter the Asian carp problem.

Man brought these things over here. Man (government) finds out and says they will never make it.

Nature will not be able to take care of this Asian carp problem because it never introduced it, developed it or destroyed it.

Man must take ownership and resolve the problem. Nets and bow fisherman are not the answer. Electronic controls and bubble fences are not the answer either.

The crappie are not in decline IMO. Same as since I moved here nine years ago.
