Beautiful night out here on the lake but the fishing sucks. Gar are taking all the minnows.

I know it's an old post, but any refinements to add to this information since 2016? If current is a key factor, I assume main lake points are key spots to try?

I know of some sunken islands along the main channel where I've recently caught a few crappie while trolling cranks, considering giving the night fishing with lights a try in that area. Would it be better to be up on top of the sunken islands at where it's 8 to 10 ft deep, or anchor off to the side of the islands in deep water but as close to the drop as possible? Or maybe it doesn't matter since the light will be drawing the bait and the crappie in?
