I posted before about about changing the speed controller inside the housing, thinking it bit the dust. Fixed it.
Then I thought about a power on/off foot control so that when I'm sitting in the middle seat of the jon boat, I can set the speed by flipping the bar for always-on or push the button on the floor with my foot. I steer and change speeds using an extention on the tm handle.
Easy to do as long as you got the three things that connect the wire to the floor button: wire cutter/pliars, Gorilla Tape to seal the wire to the battery clip-on and a wire to wire quick-connect (red) directly to the tm.
(misspelled control in the photo)
The push button comes with 2 wires. One will be spliced into the wire that connects to the t.m. directly (a). The other wire (b) from the button is attached to the battery terminal clip. Just make sure to wrap the wires connections with tape as a precaution against shock.
installed:

If you want a greater distance to the tm, you'll need to add 2 wire extensions: one to the tm and another between the battery post and the foot button.
I'm not sure if running the motor on high speed for a long time will affect the foor control button, but the instructions had no warning not to.

That's one way to do it, but there other ways. Look up Remote power and steering for an electric trolling motor. Several ways to do it and sit any where in the boat you want...

Morning Spoonminnow,
The guy I watch, and am going to follow for my inflatable pontoon boat, (though it can be put on anything) is Askmaniyak on youtube. He has a whole bunch on their. The two I was refering to is "RC Servo Motor Speed Controller" and "Wireless Servo Steering for Trolling Motors. He has a lot of different mods on there of different ways to control the steering and speed. Hope this helps, and you find something usefull...

Thanks JD
That would be helpful as long as it's easily transferrable between three other craft from the current 10' jon boat (trailer launch) to:
20' Gruman Canoe (mounted on a rack above truck bed)
12' jon boat which also has a 2.5 hp Merc. (trailer)
10' V-bottom (loaded into the truck bed for off road waters)
Each is used depending on whether I'm fishing with someone, the water fished and prescence of a boat launch vs launching from a semi-steep bank accessible only by backroads.
Key is light as possible. The heavy battery is even put in the truck's cab for transport so it doesn't jump around.

Yes sir. Be as easy as transfering a regular trolling motor and battery, and a Handheld remote...Easy...Peasy
The servo for turning is attached to the shaft right at the clamp and the electric's for the speed control is in the head. The control is like for an RC Car. Your regular battery hook-up wires, and a battery. Really check his channel out. Everything needed is available from Amazon, and you already have the motor and battery....

Great stuff in this thread. I am on the verge of replacing my trusty Jon boat with a new all weld and there aren't any places on either that I would feel comfortable mounting a foot control trolling motor. I may consider this servo option here in the future. Thanks!
Yes sir, It is a less expensive solution for sure. Just remember the spot lock on these are at the end of a rope, LOL.

Nice thing about the remote I installed is that it's always attached to the tm. Where it goes the foot remote follows.
If I had another tm for another boat (say one that had greater lb.thrust), I would wire/install another remote.
