Question Kayak - Length Vs Width ?

    BKC PK11 10.5-foot Sit-On-Top Single Fishing Kayak

BKC PK12 Angler 12-foot Sit-on-Top Single Fishing Kayak

Referencing the above two kayaks. Which, in your opinion is more important? Length or Width? Why?
If I get a kayak, I plan on primarily fishing small lakes (most will be HP restricted), with occasional trips to bigger lakes. For bass and crappie.

Also, does anyone have experience with either of these Kayaks?

No experience with either of those. Actually I’m not sure I’ve heard of them before. Out of the two listed I would go for the wider 10’ kayak. Mine does everything I need it too, it’s plenty stable and can easily fit in bed of truck. The longer length is better for tracking they say.

My kayak W.S. Pungo is narrower than both of those, but it is a sit inside paddle only. At 12'4" and 29" wide, it tracks well, and takes everything but big whitecaps or 2.5'+ standing waves. It is pretty stable, though I can't / wouldn't try to stand up in it. My experience is that a wider boat is much more stable, though it has more drag and takes more effort to get up to & maintain speed. Pedal drive will track much better than paddle in a shorter boat, so tracking won't be an issue for either one. Both look like they should be fun to fish from. See if you can find a dealer who'd let you demo them. That would tell you more than our opinions.

Make sure to take lots of pics on whichever boat you decide to go with. Have fun & good fishing.

    Jim

I have a 12' Native Titan now and use to fish out of a 12' Nucanoe. For me stability is number 1, that's why I like a wide yak. A longer length can aide on larger bodies of water when dealing with wind and I have seen it stated they track better but do not hold me to that because my only experience is with a 12'er. If at all possible, I would try both lengths and see which one feels better to you.

Bonafide RS117, very stable kayak and reasonably priced. On a lake with high winds and choppy water, never felt uncomfortable.

I hear good things about the Bonafide kayaks. Plus now that Native bought them they have the Propel pedal drive model. I would definitely consider that a good option.
