    Default Kayak Rod Holder Setup

Over the years there has been a lot of conversations on rod holders and the length of rods used on a kayak. With the weather and water warming more new kayak fisherman will be setting up their kayaks for fishing. Kayak fishing does not limit your ability to fish any difference than if fishing from a full size boat if you put in a little work to make your kayak a fishing machine.
This post is just to show y'all my setup I use and maybe you will get some ideas for your new kayak or the kayak you have been using for years.

My holders are custom built and they have two holes in the upright part for two setting, lined up with the kayak for transport and fishing position and are removable as well. For the base I used a 1/2'' X 4'' long pipe with a piece of flat plate welded on the bottom to mount to the kayak factory slides. A hole is drilled for a quick pin to attach the rod holder. I use three holders on each side that can be adjusted for spider rigging or longlining and these holders can also be removed if single pole fishing.

( There is a guy here on CDC that makes and sells custom rod holds, hopefully he will see this post and reply as I can't remember his company's name but I have bought from him and he makes killer rod holds in aluminum. My holders are based off of his design but made using steel with aluminum upright and cross arms. I only make these for my personal use and I do not sell any. )

For longlining I use a 12', 8' and 5.5' rods on each side and for spider rigging I use sets of the same size rods in 8' or 12' and you can see from the pictures that this lengths of rods can be used with no problems.
Kayak fishing is very enjoyable and you can get to places that full size boats can not that holds good fish. Enjoy your kayak fishing trips guys.
