I just put the ice in and toss the fish on top. It it’s really hot I distribute the ice around the fish.

I do it the same way. If I am cleaning the next morning I will stop by and get ice to put on top. Cooler weather fish in the livewell until I get back to the truck then they go on ice

    Default Cooler

YepYep same here. Fish go straight on ice unless it’s cool outside, usually 65 degrees or less is my rule

I usually just tie a stringer off my yak. But gonna be fishing where there’s gators. Don’t feel safe doing that there.

If I did it would be a break away stringer. That could make for a wild ride. When I limb lined out of a kayak I would throw the catfish in the thr bottom of the kayak and carry them back to the truck and put them on ice. Crappie would go into a small airlock brand cooler, fabric sides with a hard removable inside container. It would slip under the deck of the little sit in Pelican kayak. Wade fishing the Gulf of Mexico meant fish on a stringer with the potential of having your stringer grabbed by a shark. The stringers were made to break away. Better to lose a stringer of fish than to take an unwanted ride

frozen water bottles and soft sided cooler.

For smaller fish like crappie or trout, I will slide them into a plastic grocery store bag, mostly to keep the slime down.

If I use loose ice, I place into a gallon ziplock bag, and place this on top off the fish. It makes clean out of the cooler at the end of the day easier.

I like a nice slurry mix of salt, water and ice. There is absolutely no way you should dangle ANYTHING over the side of your yak with dragons about.

Ran across a cooler for kayaks called a creek cooler. Floating towable cooler. Little on the pricey side. I do like the convenience of it.

I do the same, but often put half the ice in and leave half in the bag, later in the day dump and distribute it.
