    Default Hauling your yak

    How do you transport?
Truck bed, trailer, up on top?

I typically use a trailer when I can as it’s close to the ground and therefore easier to load. I’ve tried the truck bed with extender and it works but really sticks out.
Currently working on a rack for up on top. Have done this in the past but the bigger the yak, the bigger the hassle.

I use my truck bed with extender. My kayak is a 10’ one and I had to have my extender cut and shortened to fit the kayak better. The way it is molded the regular extender didn’t even touch it. Other than needing to redo my padding on the extender no problems, easy peasy. I’ve hauled it before in full size truck and no extender needed. Probably not necessary on mine but gives kayak a little more support.

I've had kayak for years but only been on it once but this year plan on taking it to different lakes and want to use my honda accord to transport. anyone have a favorite car carrier that has worked for them.

THULE or Yakima are the best racks. Get crossbars that are wider than the roof. This makes loading so much easier.

Cam straps are the way to tie it down. Over and under, inside the tower.

I guess I just do it the redneck way. Lol. Throw it in the bed raise tailgate and strap it down. Mine is 10’ and I have a full bed so I don’t think it hurts anything. But if I’d spent more for the yak I might feel differently.

Jackson bigrig in the bed. I either need a bigger truck or smaller yak!

    You read my mind!
Cost too much. I’m in process of building one out of pvc.
Testing with wife’s little one to get final fitment before glueing.

I don’t think I would want to lift mine up there, that sucker is heavy.

800 lb. Capacity Full Size Truck Rack

    Here's one for $300.
I've been investigating them also. Do a search for ladder racks, over the cab ladder racks, etc.
I've also looked for "auto loaders", in case I wind up with a 14' boat. Some expensive, some not to bad. Some good ideas out there.
