I like the idea mentioned above about getting one that will accept the pedal at a later date if you decide.
If not an option I’d start with a paddle one, used if you can find it. Just my 2 cents.
Most everything is about like buying a new car. Soon as you buy it, drops value on a used market.

Right now I drive a golf gti its a 2 door compact car so its going to have to go on the roof of my car, I know its going to be a pain in the rear but I cant commit to buy a truck and find out kayak is not for me I wanna test the waters first but would like to start with a decent kayak..

I prefer a 10’ kayak but I’m not on any big big lakes or ocean. I can pickup and throw in the back of my truck and launch almost anywhere. I would also highly suggest you pay good attention to the seat comfort as this makes a huge difference. Check around on YouTube, tons of good videos out now on kayaks.

I hauled mine a good bit on top of a Toyota Yaris. Lol. I know from experience if you don’t want your top ruined invest in a good carrier.

A pedal kayak is a benefit for fishing, but it usually means heavy. If your golf gti does not have a roof rack, a light weight paddle or pedal paddle kayak is possibly your only choice.

I have a 12' ascend sit in with a trolling motor I mounted and also a 12' pescador pilot pedal drive. The pedal drives are surprisingly easy to navigate but if I had to choose, I'm using my ascend with the trolling motor. I mainly crappie fish though so it doesn't bother me to anchor up. If I was bass fishing the pedal kayak would be more user friendly.

There are many things to consider. where are you doing most of your fishing at shallow back waters (which you made need use of a paddle) or deeper waters, also in some states like mine (Missouri) say any craft that no motor powered does not have to be registered but as soon as any motor is added to craft it must be register to the State as a motor craft and meet all requirements. A big considerations is transportation of the kayak, will you need a trailer?, need to modifications to your vehicle? (racks and carriers),etc. Another considerations is how far you will have to drag, carry, cart you Kayak to water.

Hello. Mine is a wilderness tarpon (sit on style) the drain holes are great rod holders. Put a couple gorrilla tape small loops on the front and bungee your ice fishing vexilar up there. Use a piece of 1/2 inch pvc with a groove cut in the end to turn it off/on and adjust the gain. A hook on it will help getting transducer in and out of the water too. You can carry a bucket in the back for the slabs too. Just dont put too much water in it as it will accentuate tippieness. I fish smallys in the flambeau river too and a paddle yak is super maneuverable. They weigh less and are easier to lift on top of a car or in a truck. (If you have a real truck with a real box) 😏 good luck, yaks are fun and comfortable to sit on.
