The 10' Shakespear rods work good for me, very light with a sensitive tip.

I started out with 8 footers.
    I now use 11 foot b & m.
They are hand me downs from when I first started spider rig in big boat.
I’ve tried longer but just to hard to deal with in the confined space for me.

I have a set of 6 rods in 6.6'', 8' and 12'. I use the set that is workable for the waters I plan to fish. Also have a few 10' rods I use along with the 12' ers at times. 14 and 16' rods would really be pushing it on my kayak and with the quietness of a kayak 8' to 10' will work fine on opened waters but on the river I like the shorter rods because of the over hanging trees. My 8' to 12' rods are all Pinnacle Limit Crappie Rod
