Default Used Kayak - Worth it or not?

I am looking at a used 2019 Emotion Stealth Pro Kayak for $600. Wondering if anyone has had experience with this Kayak. Just trying to make the decision if this Kayak is worth that or not? Looking for something that is stable as I would like to fish on lakes and some creeks off of the Ohio River.

I personally would keep looking simply because the used price isn't that far from the new price. $600 for that rig unless it is mint condition and I really had have to have that model. When on sale, I bet they may sell it new for $600.

I'm a little surprised that no one has jumped in with a counter-point...

So let me... When considering a purchase, you obviously want to do your homework on price, value, blah, blah, blah. But you have to consider also, how much do I want this rascal? Is it worth it to ME? How long does it take me to earn another $100-$200? An hour, a week, a month? There are times that all of us have and probably will purchase an item not because it was a super deal, but because of other influences. Availability and or a beautiful weekend for fishing with the gang is just around the corner.

What I'm saying is, "Is it worth it to you?" Does it have all the features you are looking for? Is the hull design, tried and true? Are you just itching to get out on the lake in something and then narrow down your likes and dislikes regarding the available options in kayaks. I wish you well in your decision, either way. They are a lot of fun. Paddle safe!

Oh, and welcome to Crappie.com. It's a wonderful place to hang out with other folks who smell like fish!

P.S. Here is a link of a fella who paid over $700 for his used Emotion Stealth Pro Kayak and loves it and recommends it. I thought it might help in your decision making.

Thanks for your input FlyBye! I made an offer but the Kayak was sold. I’ll continue to look in that $500-$600 range.

I think the most important thing to remember when buying used is that the warranty does not transfer. Considering that, it had better be a really good deal when you buy used. I have seen a lot of issues with cracks lately and the manufacturer will replace the hull for free. That's what you pay for when you buy new.

When looking for a used kayak, look the hull over in detail for deep cuts and scratches or even cracks. Anything that looks like a weak spot, avoid buying it. Also, look to see if the hull is warped from heat.

Lots of bargain brand boats are warped from the manufacturer. Being on a hot container from Asia doesn't help either. Scuppers are the weakest spot, check thickness along the bottom and sides of all scuppers. Wear spots are under the seat, also look at bow and stern thinness (usually from dragging).
Thanks skeetbum thanked you for this post
