Default Anyone use a 2 man bass boat?

I've got a Tracker 175TF but am thinking of a "2 man bass boat" for small water. Also it might be easier for me out by myself (65, 230s, out of shape, retired) to put in and take out. Put in is usually not a problem as 95% of the ramps I go to have a pier to tie up to and get in when parked. But, when loading without someone to drive the truck, when I get the boat on the trailer, I have to crawl over the nose and try to walk on the trailer tongue. I guess I could change shoes and wade in the water, dry feet and put on dry shoes ( don't want to drive home with wet feet/shoes in the truck) but it's a hassle.

Anyway...that's what got me to thinking about it in the first place. I've watched a bunch of You Tube videos on them and they look interesting.

    1. What Brand(s) do you have?
    2. How do you like fishing out of it?
    3. What mods have you done?

Anything helpful you can tell me...tips, tricks, pricing, etc.

    Thanks !

Not interested in a float tube? They're fun, and most will support over 300lb.

Not really. I had one in my ARMY days (many years ago) to fish ponds around Ft Sill. Would rather be in/on a boat. Too cold to be in the water yesterday, upper 50s.

A kayak might be cool, but I don't think I could get comfortable in one. With the "2 man bass boat" style it looks like you're sitting up, more like in a chair than almost sitting on the floor like a yak.

I fish out of a Pelican Predator 2 man bass boat. I use it as much as my large boat. I have a 5hp outboard on the back and a trolling motor on the front. I have fish finder on the trolling motor and it fishes great. I use to carry it around in the back of my pickup but it can be bit heavy for one man to load and unload. I found a cheap jet ski trailer and converted it tow the boat. I love fishing for crappie in it during the spawn and among the bridge columns during the summer. The boat is pretty stable but I would not recommend standing up in it to bass fish. I just added some rod holders today and plan on taking it out in the morning. For me the key is find ramps close to coves and bridges. You really don't want to travel long distances in a small boat because you never know when the weather is going change. In a pinch I can still throw in the back of the truck but life is much easier with a trailer.

Another option is a self latching kit for your boat. Google Drotto boat latch. I too am 65 and fish by myself mostly, this has helped a lot. Unfortunately I have you beat by at least 50 lb

I bought a bass hound or pup 15 years ago and kept it on the private 20 acre lake had at the time and man did I ketch a ton of fish out of it and have fun. had a livewell and comfortable seats and had a TM on it. Since lost that place don't use it as much as didn't have a trailer but have seen bunch of them rigged up with platforms on front to allow standing up fishing and good seats on craigslist. definitely good idea as long as you do NOT go very far on bigger lakes and keep watching the radar on your phone and not to take any chances if weather moving in on you.

great if you have smaller pits and ponds you can drive up to and have a buddy to help take it off the truck.

    Basshunter EX

My dad and I both use them during spawn. 55# troller, Humminbird helix5 and a 3.5 Nissan on mine. Great in shallow water , quiet, and very stabile. I can stand on one side and not tip.

Slick rig. But the videos show 2 people, I don't have a problem when my wife goes with me. She gets in the truck after I spot the trailer, when I run the boat up on the trailer she pulls the truck up about 6-10 ft...then I get out on the ramp, snap the winch strap (may tighten it up a bit) and pull out of the way to finish getting road ready.

The problem comes when I'm by myself. Put in no problem, I have a rope snapped to the cleat and the trailer. Back in till boat floats, hit the break, slowly pull up till front of trailer is over the ramp. unhook from trailer, tie off to walkway, put the truck/trailer out of the way.

But...putting it back on the trailer alone is a pain. I have to crawl over the nose of the boat, and hope I don't fall off, if it's a steep ramp I can walk the trailer tongue to dry ramp. If a shallow sloped ramp the back of the truck is over water, sometimes up to the tires. I would then have to crawl over nose and wade in water to get to truck, change shoes or get in with water soaked shoes dripping all over to pull up boat. While not the end of the world...it's not what I want to do...especially if the water is cold or slick moss on underwater part of ramp! Just getting to be a wussy in my old age...but not getting any younger.

That's what got me looking in this direction.

OOPS...hit the wrong button. This is reply to "Grumpa"

That's what I'm talking about! Small gas motor to get TO where I'm going to fish, and know if the battery runs down I can get BACK to the ramp! Jet ski trailers are popular with these rigs, but I've seen several on You Tube using 5 x 10 flat utility trailers also. One video showed a guy back up, walk on the flat bed, grab a strap and pull the front of the boat onto the trailer. He had rollers on the bed and just walked it up to the front, where he snapped a strap on the boat and drove off the ramp! I thought that was a real slick setup!

How well has your Pelican held up? If you bought a new one today which one would you get, same one or a different brand?

Great! They look like fun, and can go places I can't take my bass boat. I would like to fish some small lakes and rivers/streams, this looks like the hot ticket. I also want to fish in places away from the jet skis, ski boats, and hi power bass boats running 70 mph in and out of the bays.
Do you use it a lot? Is that a good gas motor? I would think it would make that light little boat move pretty good.
