Default Rod Holder Ideas For A Kayak

Hi All. I'm posting in this forum to try and get as many eyeballs as I can, but if the Mods want to move it to Kayaks I understand. I am in the process of resurrecting my Mini-X for stream and small lake fishing, and I never got any rod holders the first time around. My concern is damage to my high end rod(s). The kayak is only 9 1/2 ft, and my new little Luna is 6'3". A center mounted Scotty would be really nice, but if I ever jammed it I would be very PO'd. I was thinking maybe a side mount pointed toward the stern would give me the best chance of protecting the fine rod tip. I know AlphaHawk had a kayak at one time, and he and others had this issue to deal with. I'm looking for experienced suggestions for how to set up the kayak. I would of course start my first trip with a cheaper rod to see how things are working.
    Thanks in advance,
    Bob

For tranport I mounted rod holders onto my tackle crate. Used a piece of shock cord to make sure they would stay in the holders

The “rocket tubes” on a crate are an option, but the small stream I fish has overhangs that could whack a rod. I’m thinking something more parallel to the water.
    thanks for the idea, though

I use to use the rod holder bungee on the side of the kayak to hold rods when I was on creeks grown in by trees. Point the rod tip to the back so it doesn't snag on things.

That’s the direction I think I will have to go in.

Easy enough to make a second holder on the other side.

I mounted 3 rod holders (Wise/Rod Tender) to my milk crate. Crate is strapped down. Being adjustable I put them parallel to the water with tips towards the stern.

X2. I have found this is the best solution as well. I have made the mistake of pointing the rod tip forward. Almost broke a JDM rod.

Yikes! I keep thinking of those JDM tips as well. I’ll start with my TSS Trout Slayer. I will feel bad 8f I break it, but nothing like the little Luna, that’s for sure!

Hobie makes a rod holder with a tip protector, this is what I use.
