Default Need advice on trolling motor

Just got my son and I a 1232 tracker Jon boat. Does Walmart sell a trolling motor good enough for this boat? I knew to using boats, we had been bank fishing. We’ll be fishing small lakes. Thanks

Yes, they sell a couple of different sizes in thrust. Where and how are you going to be using the boat and how far do you expect to travel.

I would think a 35 pound thrust or 40 would be plenty with a group 27 deep cycle battery. Should run you around all day with out any problems.

What Cray said. They work better from the front but that’s for further along.

I got one from Walmart and it seems to work well. Runs trolling motor and fish finder.

I have the same 1232 Topper using a Grp-31 battery, MK trolling Motor 55# thrust variable speed mounted to the front and homemade rudder on the back; Dad ran it with a 35# TM and a 27 series battery they're great for small lakes!

Thanks for the info. We ended up getting a Minnkota 30 thrust. Works good for my son and I. We have it mounted in the rear.
