    Default Car carrier

I have a truck but Iíd like to be able to carry mine on my work car since thereís great fishing about 10 minutes from work. I live 70 miles from work and gas in the truck kills me. Anyone have any experience with a car carrier?

Yup, Yakima or Thule. Can find used "bike" racks, just add new vehicle specific feet/tower. For carrying multiple yaks, crossbars wider than vehicle width make fitment easier. No need to buy the fancy saddles or other accessories. Use cam straps (NRS brand or other), up over, under and back across (i.e. inverted "u").

I agree with Bfish the Yakima or Thule. I have seen several here on Craigslist and Facebook for sale...look around you can probably find used.

I use to carry a 16' V bottom aluminum boat on top of a 1970 oldsmobile delta 88. That setup was the best car top carrier I ever owned. I made it myself of course. I had a pipe that attached to the trailer hitch and the boats engine block attached to a double pivoting receiver at the top of the pipe. You could swing the boat around on the attachment to load or unload it. I made a set of wheels that attached to the front end so after you had rotated the boat and the front was resting on the ground you could detach it from the trailer hitch device and roll it down to the ground. Not only did you have an easy way to load but half the boat's weight rested on the hitch and it was secured at one end fairly well. You could even have locked it to the device the same way you do small outboards. I say all this because I don't trust addon roof top carriers that fit into the drains on the side of cars. My current van didn't have it's original cross bars so I made my own for that too. The addon roof top racks were ok back when you had some place to tie a rope to the car body itself and I have used those on a pinto where the bumpers were external and you could put eye bolts on them.

Rhino has a trailer hitch carrier https://www.amazon.com/Rhino-Rack-T-.../dp/B01CFO8MDK

I have to say the one I built was nicer and a lot cheaper. The important thing is that you tie the front end down with a rope that goes under the front of the car. I would never use addon carriers with the kayak tied onto the racks them selves.
