    Default Spider rigging ?

I have a stupid question. Every time I think about spider rigging I can picture a big mess with lines tangled and knotted. Maybe I don’t really understand the technique. Can y’all explain it?

Sometimes it happens and you end up with all your lines messed up, but not that often. Spider rigging in my kayak a couple of years ago I caught a bunch of gar in the 2 to 3 foot range one day. That messed up my lines a several times. However very few times have crappie messed me up. Stumps are another thing that can hang you up. You just have to pay attention and act fast when a stump or big fish get on and try to keep them untangled.

You don't have much line in the water maybe 8 to 10' at the most and in most cases I have under 6' of line in the water per rod. You are not moving fast so tangled lines don't happen unless like already said you get in a stump field or a brush pile and they all get hungup. Gars are the worst problem I have had as fish species goes in tangling the lines but on a kayak you are only going to have 4 or 6 rods out at one time. I like to use 10 or 12' rods while spider rigging on my kayak and with the longer rods you have to be more alert of what is in front of you.

Never tried spider rigging on a kayak. Most lines I ever put out is 2 at a time from a yak. Seen pictures of guys doing it though.

I’ve got a well known kayak fisherman that everyone says is a master at that has offered to help me get started. Honestly I like to feel the thump of single pole but I’ve saw the fish these guys catch so I’d like to learn how to do it.

Spider rigging from a boat you have room to flip the fish to the back of the boat and grab another rod with fish on and do the same. I have been in instances where I had 5-6 on at a time, I just flip them all into the boat and unhook later. In a yak I can't see doing that with multiple rods.

With the luck I normally have that won’t be a problem. Lol
