I started using a kayak for physical rehab after an injury and there was no way I could be on the water without going fishing too. I miss being able to stand up or bring a buddy along, though I don't miss needing to stop for gas or being shut out from electric motor/paddle/pedal only waters. I'm also catching more these days than I used to because the kayak allows (causes) me to cover water more slowly & thoroughly. Spots that I used to blast by in my bass boat running 60 MPH are now producing fish because it takes more time to get around by paddle where I can study structure changes. I also read and pay attention to my depthfinder better.

I like my paddle boats when I want to fish Areas my boat and motor can’t reach.

I've been thinking about the reasons I enjoy the kayak. I've been fishing from yak's for about 18 years. Started in FL in the early 90's fishing the glades, lakes and canals. While I was in GA I had a 15' Riverhawk with a 9HP that I would walk past to get the yak. This sparked comments from my wife about the "Lawn Ornament" on the trailer. I also fished alone a lot and agree that being in the yak makes me pay more attention to the water and structure. Picking cover apart that if I were in the boat I might pass by for supposed greener shorelines. Sounds funny, but I think being in the kayak makes me feel a little closer to nature, not just obviously closer to the water. Most of all the yak provides the peace and quiet that I think is missing at times. I enjoy the solitude of being out at times with no other boats around. I was drifting down the Canoochee River on Fort Stewart, GA, one morning catching some redbreast and bass, enjoying the peace and quiet and about that time the Bradley's cut loose on the range a couple miles upriver. I just sat and laughed a bit. Now back in FL it's a bit tougher to find the isolated waters, but it's still all about the relaxation and nature. And the fish of course.

I just recently ordered a kayak. My main reason is I’ve been bank fishing and have came across some awesome looking water. Can’t really access it to fish from the bank and there’s no way to get to it in a boat. Not even a small John boat. So I’m gonna give it a try.

I enjoy the the close quarter combat if that make sense.
you can get right on top of tree limbs laying down or very close to trees without spooking the fish. a kayak does not sit very deep in the water, no trolling motor or really big object the fish are going to notice and instead of paddling to move away from structure Ill just push off gently with the paddle so i do not disrupt the water.
I have a boat as well that i do fish out of but being in a kayak also helps me to slow down and really fish an area thoroughly rather than bouncing from spot to spot when fishing is slow.

You won't regret the kayak. Upper body workout if you want to do it. Win, win situation.

I agree with all of your comments, and fish differently than most just for the solitude. I have been on the fence about buying one, the ascend 12T has my interest, but have yet to pull the trigger. Knees, shoulders, lower back. I have fished from more canoes than some folks, recently too but quickly added a TM. Posts like this always get me back to thinking.

I just pulled the trigger on a super deal on a lifetime Tahoma. I have the 14' v-bottom, but some of the places I fish, your only allowed a 6hp motor, and your not allowed to back a trailer into. I cant lift that aluminum into the water, so a kayak was next option...
