I sold both of my sit in Kayak. I now have a SIT ON TOP. I LOVE IT. No more water inside and now if any water comes in it drain out thru the holes and you can push a anchor rod thru the drain holes to stay in place also. Hard for me and my bad leg to get out of the sit in kayak without turn the boat over.
Try a kayak rental first to see what you like.
If in Dallas you can use mine.

I am thinking about a Kayak too for river fishing. I plan to set a trotline and would be using it primarily for that. I have a 14 ft open aluminum with 9.5 Evinrude but it is too heavy to handle launching in the river. Access is hard too, the bank has a couple of feet drop-off. It would be fished from also. So bottom line, weight, storage, stability and a budget purchase. Best I can come up with so far is the Pelican Premium The Catch 10 for $649.99. (34 inches wide). I know companies like Academy Sports etc. have great sales right before Christmas, sometimes 25% off if ordered online and picked up in person. That would make it a reasonable price.
Kayak rental company have use fishing kayak at a good price plus check Craigslist or 5 miles . I only buy set on top kayak so if water come in it drain out fast and not easy to flip over like set in . I put all my trot line and etc in a milk crate behind me plus 4 holder attached to the crate.
Good Luck and enjoy your adventure on the water.
