With a little help I think a canoe would be just as stable as a kayak. I recently purchased a 13' Wasatch canoe and stability was foremost on my mind as I have never been in a canoe before so I chose to modify mine to make it as stable as I know it can be by adding coolers as outriggers which now serve double duty. They can hold food / drinks / personal items or use them to hold my catch and or bait.

I have an Old Town guide series canoe that I can stand in. Those two coolers should make it more stable.

Pretty neat setup. Should serve you well. Love the idea of coolers for outriggers.

A kayaks stability comes from your center of gravity because you are sitting so low. Narrow canoes with high seats are much less stable than low, wide canoes. Lastly, when you really need stability, kneel on the floor with your butt leaning on the seat. I love canoes and am not a fan of kayaks.

FFH that is a cool set up i like the cooler idea for stability and storage i have homemade stabilizer with crab pot floats . i also use a kayak paddle when i paddle my canoe way easier imo.

i'm a boat nut think i've had more boats than cars in my lifetime to me i love my canoe just a cheap pelican 15 foot with homemade outriggers for stability i bought some wood shovel handles cut them down got 4 crap trap floats and 2 fishing rod holders to mount them in . i can stand in my canoe to fish and i'm usually rather clumsy at my old age . i have a tamarack sit on kayak i like but i can't stand up nor move around like in my canoe and the canoe is lighter .i use to have a old town vapor 10 sit in it tracked great and really stable but for seniors with old legs sit in kayaks are a pain. i think my next boat - canoe will be a sportspal canoe they seem to be the most stable and durable but we'll see my pelican was $200. new a sportspal is 7 times as much . but in the end i love my canoe toss in into the truck and i'm off , i also have a little watersnake 18 # thrust and it pushes me around the lake great.

I have an Old Town Guide Series 14 with the wood and nylon strap seats. It has a life long home with me. It is stable enough I can stand in the middle and paddle it around. Any way you slice it a canoe is a versatile watercraft
